Advice needed on drilling precisely lined up holes

This happens from time to time to me too. If the 3 screws look odd then cut most of the thread from a like screw and stick it in place - looks legit! :)

HELP! Potterton PrimaF will not light

Thanks twgas - already had a nosey around the outsides, reset switch, sprung valve things (what are they called!) They are all responding as they should and I can hear the clockwork sound so I've resigned myself to getting somebody out tomorrow. ANy recommendations in KT4? I used someone...

HELP! Potterton PrimaF will not light

Hi Folks... been ages since I was in these parts - I guess that's a good thing right? I've come home this evening to a buzzing sound coming from the boiler - thought to myself "hmmm that does not sound right or good" and sure enough ... the boiler will not light for either CH or...

    HELP: Heating on the blink

In the meantime, until a new motor is received ... Can I swap the functioning motor on the 2 port valve from the hot water valve with the faulty one then leave the hot water valve on manual? The house is really warm now with the downstairs heating not responding to the room stat.

    HELP: Heating on the blink

Thanks Chris - I'll order in a motor - at least I know for now I have a workaround. Is there any thing that can be damaged etc. by leaving the valve in the manual open position for a period of time?

    HELP: Heating on the blink

Thanks for the ChrisR .. Is there any other way of determining if this is a possible faulty room stat? I don;t know what you mean by "check for mains" on the wires going to the motor - do you mean with a circuit tester? Don't have one of those :D - scared of electrics  One...

    HELP: Heating on the blink

Many many thanks for the prompt reply... I was wondering if I could in the meatime run with the failed valve in Manual. I assume if I do thiat then whenever the boiler is firing, the downstairs rad will heat up (as the valve with the failed motor is now permanently open). You say it's a...

Affixing a Shelf to a chimney breast

Again ... thanks for the input. I'm also concerned because I have drilled into our walls in 3 different places now (coat hanger in the entrance hall, additinal plug socket and shelf in 3rd bedroom) and in all those instances, one of the holes I have drilled seems to have gone into morter or...

Affixing a Shelf to a chimney breast

Thanks for the reply... Not intentionally :D Related to this point - my house is a 1930's terraced house. How "deep" (forgive the layman's term!) are the bricks in the breast likely to be (so that I know how deep I can drill) I wish to affix the shelf in our master bedroom - there is...

Affixing a Shelf to a chimney breast

[Firstly - my apologies if this should be posted in another forum - the topic didn't seem to fit any of the other available forums...] I would like to affix a shelf to the chimney breast in our master bedroom. It is a "floating shelf" (where the shelf fits over the bracket) and will be used...

Automatic boiler fails to ignit intermittantly and randomly

Just a quick follow up post to my boiler issue... ChrisR (who lives locally to me) came around and sorted it out for me. He replaced a PCB and now the boiler lights first time every time whereas before it would make 3/4 attempts to light. I thought this was the boiler priming or something as...

Automatic boiler fails to ignit intermittantly and randomly

Firstly let me say ... I DO NOT intend attempting to rectify this fault myself - I fully intend to get in a professional to deal with this but would like some input as to what may be causing the issue so that I am prepared and understand anything a plumber may say to me :) The issue is this...

Plumbing ... is this a DIY job or should I get a plumber in?

Right ... I've wimped out of the full replacement for now and have patched the joint with some horrible sticky stuff called weatherproofing tape made by evo-stick... I will be replacing the boss when I have a little more time ... I found out that the boss does move slightly up off the...
