    Sealing grout on floor tiles?

Thanks for that. So does that mean I could also use LTP Mattstone, as I've some of that already? Does that do the same thing?

    Sealing grout on floor tiles?

Definitely not white  Thanks for the link - had a look but it seems the product is for sealing stone rather than grout? Or am I reading it wrong? Thanks again.

    Sealing grout on floor tiles?

Hi, I'm in the process of grouting the bathroom floor tiles and am wondering if I also need to seal the grout after it's dried. The tiles are fairly pale and the grout looks to be drying a darkish sandstone colour although I won't know if it stains easily until it does  if you know what...

    Insulating uneven gap around door

Hi, many thanks for another reply! And thanks also for the offer of help :) We live out in the sticks though, just past the back of beyond, so don't worry on that front :) Fair point about not wanting the silicone to come out too easily

    Insulating uneven gap around door

Another couple of questions related to this query: 1. If the silicone application goes wrong  , is it easy enough to just peel off when dry? 2. The door has quite a rattle on it at present and doesn't sit back in the frame but is a bit forward, ie. it leans against the lock/bolt...

    Insulating uneven gap around door

Thanks for the info. I used a applicator gun on the bath - dread to think how it would have turned out if I hadn't! Good builders' silicone should be okay to find - may even have some about! Although I suspect a trip to Wickes or B&Q will be in order. I think it's a fair point about not...

    Insulating uneven gap around door

Many thanks for the replies. Silicone sounds a bit more daunting than foam sticky tape or something like that! I've recently siliconed round a bath and didn't find it that much fun . . . Can I use any silicone or does it have to be a particular type? Thanks again :)

    Insulating uneven gap around door

Hi, I've got a front door in need of insulation but the gap varies from 1mm (perhaps even less) to a scary 8mm. It covers all the numbers in between as well. Rather than buy two different thicknesses of insulation, can some recommend one that will expand from 1mm to 8mm? I've had a look...

    Painted stairs and cracking paint

Hi, my other half has painted our stairs (very old carpet was previous covering) and before doing so, applied caulk/filler to any gaps at the base of each step. But as soon as we've used the stairs, the gaps between each step has opened up. Does anyone know of any way around this (other than...

    Removing old coving adhesive

It certainly doesn't sound easy! Thanks for the honesty though :)

    Removing old coving adhesive

We've taken some old, cheap coving down from a room and are going to put some nicer stuff up, but a lot of adhesive is left from the old coving. It's kind of pale brown or beige in colour, and has been applied over artex. My question is, how is it best to get this off? I had a go with a...

    Hearth tiles

I wouldn't be worrying really but I need to seal the tiles to protect them when they're fitted as a hearth, and I want them to look as 'clean' and good as possible before I seal them . . . ! Going round in circles really!

    Hearth tiles

Seems dilute bleach is the way to go! But . . . trouble is, it needs rinsing off well and the tiles are massive and are at present in my front room. No way I can move them outside to clean, and get them in again - no way at all. And they're way too heavy for me to ask anyone else to risk doing...

    Hearth tiles

Yes, that's what it's like! It's like they're always dusty and it's always increasing. Thanks for the tip about the bleach, I shall look into that :)

    Hearth tiles

I'm not sure. They were very dirty when first got them from the shop. But it came off easily with just warm water. But it seems almost like dust so don't know if it's actually the way natural unsealed limestone is?

    Hearth tiles

Thanks for the answer. Will carry on cleaning up the tiles, see if I can get them to look decent enough before I use the LTP.

    Hearth tiles

Hi, I'm hoping to have a fuel-burning stove fitted into an old fireplace and am also going to have a hearth laid. I've got three large blue/black limestone slabs that will be cut to size and fitted but they are a bit marked, despite me washing them off with warm water a few times. I'm not...

    Colourwashing pine knots

Ah, okay. Will try both out on some wood before I embark on the wardrobe itself. Many thanks! :D

    Colourwashing pine knots

Am getting put off by the Llewelyn-Bowen references!! Will check out the Ronseal brushing wax, thanks for the name :) At least that way, I may feel less like I'm on a bad TV show . . . 8)
