Light switch advice - installing a new one

Yeah, you could be right then. If it shorted my fusebox it means it's earthed right? Thanks, that makes sense. I'll ask an electrician to have a look.

Light switch advice - installing a new one

It says that it passed whatever it is haha. Maybe it's a fake certificate? I guess I was kinda asking how I would get around this? They aren't touching anymore. My surround/inset into the wall is quite small.

Light switch advice - installing a new one

Anyway, I bought it and it has a GB implement standard certificate with it so I'm hoping it's ok. One important question. When I put the switch in, the contact screws for the load and line were very close to the metal of the surround. It actually shorted my fuse box the first time I tested it...

Light switch advice - installing a new one

Makes sense. Surely this one being sold in the UK must be tested to be allowed to be sold on Amazon UK?

Light switch advice - installing a new one

I guess that I lot of things are made in China then sold under UK brands. That one just has more obvious company details. I selected it has it doesn't has a shallow inset on the backplate which will fit my existing fitting.

Light switch advice - installing a new one

Thank you for the quick reply! Cool, so I guess it's important to know which brown is which when I wire the new one? The other brown ones, I have no idea. It was a builder rather than electrician that did it, so I'm guessing that anything could have happened :S

Light switch advice - installing a new one

I have a timer light switch by my front door that I'd like to replace with an automatic one. I've taken it off and there are two brown wires going to the switch. ==>> Can someone advise me what the brown wires are and if it would be suitable for me to replace the existing switch with this...

    240v to 110v convertion

Yep, 40 Watts. I tried it last year and it didn't charge, so I don't think mine is. It's actually a beard trimmer to be precise and I couldn't find a dual voltage one.

    240v to 110v convertion

It's an electric shaver to use abroad...about 40 amps I think. RE: the link above. I decided not to get it as most of the reviews say that it breaks on first use.

    240v to 110v convertion

I just want to confirm that a device like this will allow a 240v UK mains device to work in a country where they only use 110v. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stepdown-240-120V-Transformer-45VA/dp/B000NJ26X2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1320675663&sr=8-2 Thanks!

How to replace the pull cord on a bathroom extractor fan

Like I said, I didn't know the fan wouldn't have a cord. I've never bought one before and I just assumed that it would have a switch to turn it off and on. It's an amateur mistake which I'm perfectly willing to accept as I am an amateur. There isn't currently a switch to replace as it is...

How to replace the pull cord on a bathroom extractor fan

Hey, thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. I had no idea that there wasn't a pull cord on it and the item description didn't mention it. There is a tiny diagram, but it's not really helpful. I don't really understand electrical diagrams enough to feel confident doing it. Well, less that...

How to replace the pull cord on a bathroom extractor fan

Ok, the fan came and I don't think I am capable of installing it. There isn't a pull cord on it. It says in the instructions that I can either install a separate pull cord or attach it to the light electrics, both of which I don't know how to do. So I'm going to go back to the original...

How to replace the pull cord on a bathroom extractor fan

Would this be class one or two? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manrose-Extractor-Fan-Timer-XF100T/dp/B003O9FU68/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1319118987&sr=8-2

How to replace the pull cord on a bathroom extractor fan

It's a bathroom fan. I didn't understand the second question. By clamped, if you mean the bit that I have marked red, I took it out to take the photo so you could see it properly.

How to replace the pull cord on a bathroom extractor fan

My bathroom extractor fan hasn't had a cord on it for a while since it fell off, so I am going to replace it. I have taken the cover off and marked in the image below where I think it goes. There was a cap over this which I haven't included in the photo. What I need to know now is what...
