    Ipad to TV

Hi, Is there a simple way to connect an Ipad to a TV, ideally wireless. The Ipad is an IPad Air, few years old. The TV is a (pink) Alba TV DVD 24inch non smart TV, it has 1x HDMI, scart socket and USB. It will be used mainly for watching Netflix. The easiest and most straight forward option...

    Painting Concrete Roof

Yes, it’s flat at the top. I have external wall insulation so don’t really have access to the wall. I has got lead flashing on, or at least it did before it insulation was done. The outside was done free by some energy company not long after we moved in, putting a sloped roof above it...

    Painting Concrete Roof

Hi, I have a concrete roof over my front door. Twice I year I have to clean this roof and repaint it. I use a wire wheel on an angle grinder to clean the old paint off, the masonry paint to paint the roof. It looks great until it rains. I know I’m obviously using the wrong paint, but what...

    Help with a plug socket.

I didn’t touch any of the wires for the reason you give above, becoming brittle and possibly snapping. I wasn’t prepared to touch it until I was confident that I can make it safe and still have my electric turned on. Although I clearly can’t do this job myself, I’m grateful for the advice...

    Help with a plug socket.

I’m assuming it’s a part that wasn’t replaced because it was behind a wardrobe. I’ve changed loads of sockets, switches and lights and the wiring has always looked better then that. The sockets I taken off today have a date sticker on of Aug 02, I know that is only the date of the socket, but...

    Help with a plug socket.

I have an electrical report from 2001, it says the wiring is unsatisfactory and needs a re-wire. It also mentioned VIR wiring. Next time I take a plug off I’ll post some pics of the wiring. Thanks everyone for advice, this is a job for someone else.

    Help with a plug socket.

I have changed a socket today for a socket with USB plugs in, in the same room. That wiring looked a lot better. There is also a link above to another thread with pictures of my consumer unit.

    Help with a plug socket.

I’ve put the socket back on, I’ll leave it on and get a professional in. There is another socket opposite it, it will probably be easy for them to run a spare off to this socket and make it safe. Thanks.

    Help with a plug socket.

That red wire (not the dirty reds) is just a end that isn’t connected to anything. I might be looking at something completely different to you.

    Help with a plug socket.

Hi, Got a plug socket that has never worked, it never really bothered because we put a wardrobe in front of it. Now my daughter wants a game room so I decided to investigate further. Plug socket tester doesn’t light up meaning no live but my contactless voltage pen shows power. Removed the plug...

    Cooker wiring.

Thanks! Worst case scenario, I suppose the switch could be changed to switch only and do away with the socket. I don’t plan on moving just yet, but it’s nice to know it’s not a job that needs doing.

replace standard bulb holder with downlights

I always buy down lights with a loop in loop out terminal. I don’t have them in my bathroom so I don’t know if they exist with the required IP rating.

    Cooker wiring.

Hi, Above my cooker I have the cooker isolation switch, with another switch and plug socket. There is a strip of plastic cover running down the wall with the wire in, then it connects to the cooker. It has been there since we moved in, nearly 10 years ago. Every time someone comes around who...

    Just bought these... opinions.

In one of my work locations the sockets in the office I use has RCD switches on the sockets, are they becoming more in domestic set ups or is it RCD protected a different way?

    Just bought these... opinions.

Hi, Just bought these (see pics) from Lidl, £5 each. Talking to a guy in work, who seems to think they are a must have for any home DIY. I did buy a socket tester from screw fix but if fell apart the first time I used it so I returned it. Socket tester. If live/neutral are wrong, would the...
