Can I danish oil a veneered oak door?

I concurr with the statements already made about disposal of oil impregnated rags. It is rare but I have seen it happen. With regards to oiling veneered substrate, I am an antique furniture restorer and french polisher by trade and over the past twenty years I've oiled hundreds of tables...

    Broken Lock - Front Door

Had a similar problem myself recently. I figured it was a job for the locksmith but when I looked at the lock and found the name it turned out there was a supplier of the very locking mechanism just round the corner. Very easy to change they are: just undo the screw for the Euro cylinder (if...

Flat roof insulation vent or not?

Ok, thanks for the answers. Another thought then: I have no problem with venting the cavity above, if I put the unsulation lower down, but I can only do it at one side of the garage. Would it be feasable to vent the garage at the ends and then drill vent holes through the rafters, all 13 of...

Flat roof insulation vent or not?

Thanks for the reply, Noseall. I'm still a bit confused though. Just reading up a little it seems the biggest problem I am likely to have is condensation build up on the cold side of the celotex boards if I leave an unvented cavity above them. The joists are 8x2 with an approximate gap...

    Mahogany stair handrail

The end grain will be darker anyhow, but you could always seal the end up with some french polish, as long as you use either a oil based or water based stain then it will not penetrate the sealed up areas.

    Insulating between garage rafters.

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to reply. Assuming that the celotex boards are fitted flush with the bottom of the rafters, if I was to use a vapour barrier, would this negate the need to have the cavity above the insulation ventilated? Or alternatively, If I do ventilate it, would I...

    Insulating between garage rafters.

I've got to insulate a detatched garage flat roof that I'm turning into a studio/workshop. At the moment the roof is just felt covered ply, sitting on top of the 8x2s. I have aquired enough 100mm celotex to insulate the whole roof but I'm unsure wether to place the boards so that they are flush...
