Thick roots growing in boundary wall, causing collapse

Just did a google image search and I think that's it.

Thick roots growing in boundary wall, causing collapse

Well it's a strange one, I couldn't see any entry from a tree of plant nearby. I think this thing made the wall it's home all by itself. There are little branches popping out the top of the wall, and some growing out of the other side (the neighbors side). I think it's basically a parasite in...

Thick roots growing in boundary wall, causing collapse

Hi all, See pics attached for detail. I have a dividing wall between me and a neighbor. This wall has shown signs of movement for a while, but in recent times some bricks have started to push out and mortar is falling off. Like a game of jenga, I was able to pull a brick out and behind it is a...

What would you do about this inaccessible weeping joint? (Pics)

Hi all, I have an en-suite which has a radiator and a weeping flow connector. The joint/connection is some kind of pushfit I think (or similar). It is behind a tiled wall that is inaccessible. I can get in to the void behind there via removing the small sink unit, BUT, the flow to the rad goes...

Use a fire door as a front door?

I suppose that's the risk, but I could lacquer the inside and paint with oil based on the outside. A couple of coats.

Use a fire door as a front door?

Find me an OAK 4 panel exterior door with raised mouldings and I'll buy you an e-beer... It will be oiled oak on the inside to match existing internal doors and painted satin black on the outside (it's for a Victorian terrace). I can easily find these as fire doors...

Use a fire door as a front door?

I'm struggling to find an external front door in the material and style that I want, but there are a few options for it when looking at internal fire doors. They are also a bit cheaper. As fire doors are the same thickness as a typical front door, would there be any issues in using them in...

Mystery leak (with pics). Toilet maybe?

Bit of an update on this. The damp patch hadn't worsened over the last few days, but it rained last night and the patch has now expanded. It's either a coincidence somehow or the problem is with the roof. Agh! Nothing looks wrong from the outside, but it's a fairly inaccessible area (4 storey...

Mystery leak (with pics). Toilet maybe?

@dilalio - thanks for the advice on how to go about it. That all sounds like a good plan to me. In your opinion/experience, can a damp patch like this be related to a toilet (or sink/shower etc) that is sited approx 700mm away on the floor above? I'm thinking a leak could travel along some...

Mystery leak (with pics). Toilet maybe?

And finally, after a couple of days, the dark'ish staining has spread out a tiny bit horizontally, but receded back on the large areas. It is still damp to the touch, but seems to be drying out at the extreme edges.

Mystery leak (with pics). Toilet maybe?

A couple more pics to click. These show the toilet and damp spot positions from a couple of different areas.

Mystery leak (with pics). Toilet maybe?

Hi all, On Friday evening I spotted a damp patch on the ceiling where it meets an external wall. It hadn't rained for a few days before this. If it did, it was a a very light shower at worse. Click the pics below: Above that ceiling is an en-suite, with a toilet in the general location...

Moisture settling on purlin causing damp. Common causes?

There is a ventilation gap above the insulation as far as I'm aware. Whether or not air is correctly passing through it I don't know. There isn't an individual vapour barrier, other than the foil backed insulation boards themselves. Does it look like it could be condensation forming and...

Moisture settling on purlin causing damp. Common causes?

Hi all, I'm hoping for some advice on a troubling issue. The situation is: - house undergoing full renovation - Current works mainly consist of full house replastering so quite a bit of moisture - recent loft conversion carried out as part of renovation All is well, apart from a soggy purlin...

Preparing concrete slab for engineered wood

Hi All, I've had a few quotes to put down 38sqm of engineered oak flooring on to a 6 week old concrete slab. Two of them were £750 to float the boards straight on, one was £1,140 to apply sealer/primer throughout and also stick the boards down with adhesive. Is it generally best to stick the...

Idea of cost to reinstate this basement window?

Yea could do that. Or at least keep the 1+0.5 brick pattern on each row, but have them all vertical. That's a little bit less work. Any idea on what kind of prices you'd expect to come back for the whole job?
