    Mains to a summer house

Building is dangerous full stop you lot just add wires to my complicated structures - but yet you have attitude and think you're Tesla but in reality there are so many rough sparkys its shocking. So by your rational we should not give advice on any building work because its dangerous - how many...

    Fair price?

£700 all in and 2 days work. Thats if the wall is a tidy face brick and not common work. Also that's not enough cement, or sand. Footings, 650 bricks, copings 7 bags is tight and so is the sand :-) I don't think its a crazy price if he's digging out and getting rid of all the crap.

    Concrete Floor Insulation

It may have insulation we were putting it in back then and before that. The dpm could be above or below, I'd not fret over a 50mm core, just cut some dpm ie plastic use a thick bag put it in the hole and so its like a pocket and fill, you could put resin in. What I do is after cutting the screed...

    Bricklayer average costs....

£120 to £140 for a real bricky. £80 for a line boy. Pricework would depend on what it actually is. :D

Hand batching 2m cubed....how long etc?

Would take me about 3hrs but I'd get someone on the mixer and you can focus on the laying then :-) I've done that with small belle mixer, would rather bigger though. Often I've even had the mixer in the area to be conreted and mix n tip and move the mixer back as you go :-)

    Concrete Floor Insulation

Contact the developer see if it was part of the spec. If not then either drill a 50mm core hole, bearing in mind you'll probably puncture the dpm - no biggy though. One thing I often do is drill tight to an existing wall to see if any insulation has been brought up the sides ie 100mm rip, if...

    Mains to a summer house

Nothing like a straight answer I sometimes wonder why people bother even asking electrical questions based on half the answers - ffs its a DIY forum not a debate on H&S or government involvment in our lives. Mate I don't have the answers but if it was me I'd be looking at the loading of the...

    Built in appliances

Nope your right if its behind the appliance then great. But more often than not they fall into cupboards, and if its an ikea kitchen even more fun as the units go back the full 600mm. Plus some integrated stuff is getting pretty deep too. But nope behind is fine but I'm not talking about behind...

    Built in appliances

Hi bud you'll get a lot of the get a sparky nonsense here, but truth is if you can find a good one which is rare and funny considering its only domestic electrics then do that. Annyhoots my take is this 1. I do not like sockets under counters - kids hands, liquids, ie knock over the pop and...

Outside light - 1.5TE light cable with fcu

Also the other thing is the fcu fuse would protect the house 1.5te should someone put a large watt replacement bulb or new fitting in, in the future. It just seems the best option to me. Plus I'd have the cert state 5amp fuse etc

Outside light - 1.5TE light cable with fcu

Did think of using a grid switch but thought it still looks odd. Basically I thought about the confusion issue too. I was either going to put it at socket height on the same jamb as the outside light (on the inside though :-)) or place the fcu in my server cupboard which is only 500mm from the...

Outside light - 1.5TE light cable with fcu

Quick question, can you run an outside wall light (not high load or flood etc) from lighting circuit to fcu to light. I know you can run from lighting to outside light (rcd protected) and from ring main to fcu to outside light. The reason I ask is I will be putting a 4g lightswitch in kitchen...

Hi all just some design advice - help

KK will try and answer the above. Mixing TT and PME - I'm not they have not been disconnected, I did not add them. Why mix them, why not mix them was what I was asking. In a nutshell is there a belt and braces advantage to leaving the earth rods connected. Radials for oven and hob ring for...

Hi all just some design advice - help

Downstairs Rewire. Hi all, great forum have often lurked here. Just hoping to pick some brains. Before I start just like to say I've been in the trade (old school c&g) for 26yrs, worked on a mix of private work and large new builds. I'm not a sparky, but have done all of my home wiring over...
