Fitting UPVC window in larger gap.

2nd hand upvc window but gap on the outside of the opening width wise is 15mm each side. Is there a trim section of 15mm thickness I can glue onto the side of the window to make up the width? Most trims seem to be 6mm. Any other ideas welcome. Thanks.

Replacing CH pump with Trident WRS 25/60.

Why does this pump come with a plug attached? I'm assuming the plug is removed and the cable wired into the CH control box as the wiring in the pump's own black head box looks neat and best not to disturb it there. Am I right that no extra cables are needed? Many thanks.

Counter battens for Velux roof window.

Is it necessary to have counter battens for the installation of a Velux roof window? It occurs to me the window may not reach down to the rafters it's sitting on two times batten depth. It's a porch roof and not part of the living areas.

Grant pump whining and drips from bleed screw

Gravity system with Grant pump (UPS 25-60 30). Whining pump but bleeding makes no difference. Now dripping from screw. Questions: 1. Can I remove the screw w/o water pouring out? 2. I have taps either side to change pump. Are they all standard sizes for a new one? 3. Could it be the diverter...

Retrofitting insulation board into a cavity (Ed.)

I am replacing a small porch window with a double glazed unit. At the same time I thought I would try to fit in some insulation board. It is a cavity of concrete block and Purbeck stone block. I am not considering loose fill. Has anyone tried this or advice? Thanks.

My Porch is 1.8m wide. I have a second hand Velux which is 1140mm wide but of course flashing around will need space.. I have concrete verge tile and the roof is Marley concrete Modern (rough) tile. Would this Velux fit in that width of 330mm each side? Thanks.

I want to reconstruct old Manhole chamber in Porch (Ed.)

My upstairs BRoom soil goes down 12 feet then into a clay pipe in the foundation slab turns 90deg once there (in the concrete) then 8 feet to an old (1970s) 600 x 400 chamber. This chamber is brick and is in the floor of a small porch. Because the porch is old build and uninsulated I want to...

Can You Fit A Magnaclean To Horizontal Pipework?

I can't see where in my system it can be fitted. The boiler (new Grant Pro 15/26) does not have room and I have no idea where the last return pipe from the rads is.

    Confused about Multitools!

I want corded mains. I see DeWalt is proprietary for fixing. Does it come with an adaptor and is that an issue? I want to pay around £100.

    Confused about Multitools!

I want a good multitool for home DIY but must to any job say cutting into brick (300W?). I am confused about starlock where some are proprietary, Bosch and Dewalt are proprietary so can I buy any tool and does the adaptor allow easy change between types. I would like one with light and angle...

    Just had oil boiler replaced...

Open system. Pics as follows: boiler 1 is the new SS indirect cylinder. boiler 2 shows pump and diverter. Pump is lowest setting. Pipe going down from T to diverter goes to I think a pressure relief valve (plumber who fitted tank says it is not needed). boiler 3 shows plastic pipe and (on left...

    Just had oil boiler replaced...

Then discovered the HWT leaks! Had to drain system and fit. BUT on refilling there are so many air locks. Crap original work to say the least! Thing is the pump bleed gives off steam sometimes and water but still not quite circulating the hot water through the HWT coil. Any suggestions welcome...

    Feed to outside oil boiler.

Yep, that's about it with your diag. The electrician put this huge switch on the wall with the cable pinned to the wall along to the boiler. I will have to redo it and get the wiring hidden. It's just too ugly!

Isolating switch for external oil boiler

The supply to the boiler is from the control system which itself is supplied from the ring main (RCD) via a two pole switch inside. There will be an isolator (IP65) outside adjacent to the boiler allowing isolation in that area. The boiler earth is connected to the boiler chassis. The oil supply...
