    Plastering kitchen - what type?

Hi, am renovating fully my kitchen. I've had the roof replaced and new lead flashing as its a lean to kitchen with a pitched roof. Its a single brick wall construction with a stone floor. The plans are over new year to get walls plastered up and final wiring done. However, my mate whos...

New boiler and gas pipe size

Actually, my house is mine to live in until I sell it (if I do) due to being offered a job miles away! Might not sell it anyway just yet, as the work that's left is quite substantial! And, as is said up north.... ! Gi'ooer! As if I'm going to have a new system installed without a flush and...

LOL!!! To be fair though, looking at them they aren't that bad, and it's my first house that has a lot of shocking things being removed! CHEEP! Says the poor bird! Anyway, intention is to sell when done, as offered a bloody job miles away!

    Internal Plasterboarding

Hi all - got a query ..... Renovating a 1880's house, nice little pet project, bits and pieces being done in stages. However, due to the plaster being completely blown in many areas, the decision was to strip the plaster back to brick work, and redo with plasterboard with steel framework...

Choices, choices. What Combi / Pipework?

PMSL - ****s sake! I'm 50/50 - I'm on a tighter budget than a tramp at the weekend deciding over meths or white lightning! But, I need reliability, but have the extra £ to spend IF needed. Cheers.

Choices, choices. What Combi / Pipework?

TBH - The basic pack that Mr C.H. is doing I don't think is a decent one, unless anyone knows otherwise. Also, for a upgrade to a 28 unit add on an extra 110 quid, then another 50 notes for TRV's. Oh - and are they VAT inclusive or ex VAT?! I've heard that the Biasi 28 units are cheerfully...

Choices, choices. What Combi / Pipework?

Hmnnn... quite pricey considering... and I want a 28 unit, not a skanky little 24 !!!!!! And you don't get TRV's with Mr Central Heating!

Choices, choices. What Combi / Pipework?

Having looked through some of the other posts, it seems this question gets asked a few times, but I have a list ready made up of what combi's I am considering. Firstly though, I'm renovating a old house from bottom up, and I know that the choice for new builds and quickie installs is plastic...

    Smoke in central heating pipes!

Solid fuel oven range and back boiler problem! I've connected up the pipes to a pressure tester and tested for leaks, and its all sound! But, when a fire is lit and its burning away, smoke appears to be seeping out of the water feed / outlet pipes!!! Any ideas?! Cheers - Wardster

Windhager ZH-L solid fuel stove / boiler

Hi all - I've aquired a Windhager zh-l solid fuel burning stove / hot water boiler, and want to know if anyone has ever had any experience of these, and if anyone indeed actually has one! I'm going to be wanting it hooked up pretty soon to the central heating system, which has the rads piped up...

    Dodgy builder demanding money!

Well, theres been a range of interesting replies - so thanks for the advice, whether supportive or "oops - you won't be doing that again in a hurry will you!"!! As a update, I wrote them a letter and sent it recorded delivery, telling them about the snags, how I allowed them to store their...

    Dodgy builder demanding money!

Thanks basecoat - The pictures I have are of the internal work which has had to have been made good, plus the door frame having being put back into place. Outside shots of the mess aren't available (didn't take any  ), but the neighbours I'm pretty sure would back me up on the mess left...

    Dodgy builder demanding money!

Thanks for the quick replies. I know I'm more than likely going to be stuck between a rock and a hard place, but the only documents I recieved was the initial single sheet paperwork for the building work with "Schedule of works - As per drawing number xyz123" (Drawing supplied by the Structural...

    Dodgy builder demanding money!

Hi guys (and gals!) The search function didn't help me when looking if anyone has posted anything similar, so, here goes! I required some building work carried out, which was to build a reinforcing wall to support a bowed cellar wall. Additionally, I also needed the floor joists and...

    Electrical Installation horrors.....

Crafty - well spotted. Yep, its a 3 ph board, with it feeding an absolute variety of circuits. The majority of teh circuits feed power to an office area, office lighting and other "installations". The problem is, is that the building is quite old, and a lot of the circuits are only identifiable...

    Electrical Installation horrors.....

:D I wonder how long the first panel would last if that bare unprotected earth wire got caught up and shorted straight to Live? :P Looking on the bright side, it could mean I might not have to goto work for a while till they fixed it or rebuilt the factory :D
