    Bathroom Extractor Switch Question

Thanks all. Yes, had already looked at one of the pull cord with the little light to know when it's on (if it is a quiet as they claim!). Not 100% sure on the supply as yet. I've got down lights in the bathroom, and currently have the loft floor up, so should have various options for powering...

    Bathroom Extractor Switch Question

Hi, Firstly apologies if this is the incorrect section, it seemed the most relevant. I want to install an extractor fan in the bathroom, but do not want it linked to the bathroom light. If I purchase a unit such as the Vent Axia VASF100T...

    Removing Collar / Rafter Tie

I I take that to mean getting a SE involved etc? Didn’t really want to spend much on it. I’m going to be bringing the floor level up anyway to get my 270mm insulation in, so maybe a step either side too would make it a bit easier to get over! Thanks for the advice.

    Removing Collar / Rafter Tie

A couple more pictures to show the arrangement. I’m wondering if they are required, if I could replace with either one above, or below (or both) to achieve the same affect?

    Removing Collar / Rafter Tie

Ah ok, they are not actually attached to the struts or the purlin, then are nailed into one of the rafters only. There is a wall below one side, but not the other. Are there other solutions?

    Removing Collar / Rafter Tie

Thanks, to be clear I’m not looking to remove the the struts, just the horizontal one.

    Removing Collar / Rafter Tie

Hi, I have a 1950’s semi, with a generous loft approx 6m long. There is 3 supports on the loft, which I believe are either called Rafter or Collar ties which divide the loft into quarters. The one in the middle is around 3ft height, which results in an awkward limbo or high jump. If I could...

How To Add Height To A Difficult Fence?

Thanks all, legalities aside... what would be the best way to actually attach a trellis etc to this fence? Tempted to approach council, but if they say no... that's a bummer. Also, could they make me take down the existing one? Previous owners put it in, Street View on Google shows been there...

How To Add Height To A Difficult Fence?

Thanks @sodthisforfun I believe you are technically correct about the 1m limit next to a road. What I don't know is if the council is really that bothered or not? I see huge walls, fences and even buildings right next to the road all over the place. Seems crazy to me that a corner plot is not...

How To Add Height To A Difficult Fence?

Any help appreciated for a solution that works, but does not look terrible please. Our house is on a corner plot, with a 6ft fence around the outside. I would ideally like to add another 1ft to this for security and privacy. (We're across the road from a pub, so myself being on the taller side...

Bathroom Extractor Fan Recommendation (Over Run & Quiet)

Cheers @JohnD - that sounds quiet enough for me. Appreciate the help, thanks.

Bathroom Extractor Fan Recommendation (Over Run & Quiet)

I'd have to measure it, but see below for context. I've only ever really experienced rather loud and annoying fans rattling on. If it's something not particularly audible from outside the room with the door closed then perfect. I see a lot of the sites give the db reading, but it's hard to know...

Bathroom Extractor Fan Recommendation (Over Run & Quiet)

I've never really seen the point of linking to the light switch really, unless it's a room without natural light. For a good half of the year it's light enough in that room to not need the light on for morning showers etc, and there is also the annoyance of the fan running on when nipping to the...

Bathroom Extractor Fan Recommendation (Over Run & Quiet)

Hi all, Could anybody please recommend me an extractor fan for the bathroom? There is so much choice, I'm completely lost! Screwfix seem to have 120+ alone! Criteria is... - Wall mounted - Quiet as possible - Manual on (with over run) - Suitable for small bathroom (2m x 2m) with shower I...

Gas BBQ Propane Regulator O Ring Replacement

Hi, My Google Fu seems to be weak! I've a B&Q gas BBQ adaptor leaking, which seems to be due to a perished O ring. It's a 27mm adaptor, but I can't seem to find anywhere which says what the correct replacement part is. Does anybody know please?

Unexpected Sewer... Where I Want To Build My Pond...

It's uphill from us, so it seems just to be for the house behind us... at that point anyway. Found an old planning application which I've added lines to. If it does just serve the single house behind, would that mean any issues are the responsibility of them until which point we join?

Unexpected Sewer... Where I Want To Build My Pond...

The strange thing being inside is only the width of the manhole cover. The big concrete slab it sits on with bricks under that is much bigger. A chamber within a chamber? Am I any closer to being able to plant a tree anywhere near this thing?

Unexpected Sewer... Where I Want To Build My Pond...

Crow bar is about the only tool I don’t have! Anyway, a spade and few bit of wood do the trick to lift the whole thing. Is currently live as I heard the house behind water come down their down pipe, and a flow through the chamber. (Which would the one at the top). We’ve only the road to the...

Lid seems to be about 4 inches deep, and I’ve not got anything to lever it off further with.
