    Swapping that will scare me more. The timer stopped working after a valve was replaced on the hot water cylinder, no combi here. This way I get a more accurate temperature and get my timer back.

    Nope no little flame symbol. It shows the current room temp, I think, but as it doesn't turn on you can't use up and down to change the temp.

    Checked instructions still no joy, what are the chances of it being faulty? There is a power button on it and pushing it does nothing.

    It is set to on yep, we always leave it on. It's been working fine, with the old stat, just no timer feature

    Done it with yellow and red and won't power on, display lights but because the batteries are in, is it deffo red and yellow?

    Brilliant, I'll be doing that in the morning then. What sort of thermostat would use the blue and earth wires then? Just wondered why and old dial one has more wires than a modern programme able one.

    And it really doesnt matter which way round they go? Red in NO and yellow in COM or yellow in NO & red in COM

    Great help so far. My timer on the wall no longer does the time thing for some reason, it's heating on or off really, hence this new idea. I can pick up the horstmann one today. I am still worried about getting the wires in the wrong place
