Hi
Wasnt sure if this is a CH or Electrics question so here goes..
I have a traditional Drayton dial thermostat on the wall and want to replace with a digital on with programmes ideally.
Here is a pic of whats there already, my question is, could someone PLEASE look on Screwfix and recommend a simple replacement unit. I need it to be as simple as possible, I have looked but Im not sure which wire would go where, Im sure I would have a couple of wires left that I would need to tape off.
All help appreciated :-)
Martin

It depends on what functions you want the new unit to perform.
If want to be able to programme the stat to operate at certain times (you may already have this function in your heating time clock?)

This one is fine for general stuff

As far as connecting the new unit, There is a simple guide in the WIKI. Did you look there? CLICK ME

Personally I would use the Horstmann DRT2 which will connect to you two wire system and can be programmed to have different temperatures through the day. I have earlier version in my house. Batteries last around two years but I always change mine beginning of each season.

You will not need the N neutral Blue wire just put some insulation tape on it.

Great help so far. My timer on the wall no longer does the time thing for some reason, it's heating on or off really, hence this new idea. I can pick up the horstmann one today. I am still worried about getting the wires in the wrong place

Oh dear.

The DRT2 cannot be simpler to wire.
AS stated above (and as on the WIKI) you will not need to connect the neutral (your blue wire). Or the earth (the yellow&green)Put them in a separate terminal blocks, not connected to each other or anything else. Then you are left with the red and yellow wires. Those go on the only two connections on the DRT2, and it doesn't matter which way round they go.

You will need to set your existing CH timer to be permanently on.

Quite honestly, I would keep the existing stat and replace the timer instead, if its faulty.

To be able to offer something of use to all the people with volt-free mechanical thermostats.

Hi guys
Just picked up the DRT2 and there are 3 connections, taylortwocities you mentioned there are only 2, here's a pic. So the red and yellow go in which hole

You should have received a piece of paper with it, on which you will find:
