    Instant hot water tap.

Hello. Wife has bought a cheap instant hot water tap, from amazon, and I just wanted a bit of advice on installing it. It's one of those 60 quid ones which plugs into a standard socket, and has a heating element inside the tap body, which heats to 45 degrees C (max 60 deg C). The fitted flex...

Noticeable delay between 2 lights on same switch coming on.

Yes, separate drivers, built in each lamp. I have disconnected and remade the connection to the 'slow' lamp, and it seems better. I felt like the live had gone too far into the push-fit terminal block. Maybe it was touching the insulation in part. I'll see how it behaves. Cheers

Noticeable delay between 2 lights on same switch coming on.

Hello again, it's been a while. I just replaced two integrated LED downlighters for exactly the same models, and there is a noticeable delay between them both coming on. 1 comes on half a second after the other. They are both wired into a small junction box (1 feed into 2) rather than than...

2 gang 1 way smart lightswitch installation. Advice please.

Yes, they are from the same mcb, as it's all wired through a pre-wired junction box. I'm assuming that all the lives in the junction box are technically the 'same' live, so would it matter if I combine 2 into 1?

2 gang 1 way smart lightswitch installation. Advice please.

Hi, I want to install a Tapo S220 smart lightswitch (2 gang, 1 way) but I am unsure if I can do it with my current lightswitch wiring. The lights in question are wired through a Surewire pre-wired junction box, so each switch has its own live and switched live, to the corresponding light...

    Home wiring a mess, help!

ban-all-sheds, new CU as the RCD in the current one doesn't work, and as it's an obsolete MEM board, the replacement RCD and adaptor to fit cost more than a new board. For info, I'm in Scotland, and I would be getting the electrician to check any work I did when they install new CU. Cheers for...

    Home wiring a mess, help!

Exactly, the previous owner has added bits and removed bits, so it's all a mess. I want to get as much done before the electrician starts so I'm not paying for him to spend a whole day crawling about tracing circuits and installing cable on top of the day or two installing a new CU. As you can...

    Home wiring a mess, help!

We are renovating our house and the wiring seems to be a total mess, probably done in part by the previous owner. In order to help the electrician/keep costs down, I have traced out the excuse for a ring main (loads of spurs) and am going to run new 2.5mm T&E to the sockets so it is all ready...

Using D-Line 'Easy Sockets' from 13A cooker switch socket

Thanks, Thought as much but wanted to double check. Got them in B&Q on clearance, ranging from 49p to £1.99 for the different bits, so it was way easier and cheaper than new sockets or even an extension, lol.

Using D-Line 'Easy Sockets' from 13A cooker switch socket

This is kind of a few questions in one. I recently got some D-Line 'Easy Sockets' (basically surface mounted plug and play 13A sockets) and was wondering if it's safe to run a couple of 2 gang , or one 3 gang off the 13A cooker switch socket, with a view to powering the washing machine...

Replacing cooker with new hob and oven

Thanks for the reply. I should have elaborated more. The set up I have is cooker switch on one wall, with approx 3m of 6mm twin and earth run to location of new hob. I'm assuming I should mount a connection unit at skirting height or similar, and run the heat resistant cable from there to...

Replacing cooker with new hob and oven

Cheers for the reply. MI says 1.5 - 2.5mm 3 core heat resistant for oven, and 6mm type H05SS - F rated 180 deg C or higher for the hob. I checked the original cooker fuse, it's old style ceramic push fit fuse (wire) rated at 30A, and the immersion radial I'm using for the oven has 16A mcb...

Replacing cooker with new hob and oven

Hi, I have searched the forum, but not found exactly the info I need, so apologies if it's already been answered somewhere. I am replacing my cooker for separate oven and hob units, which will be situated at different sides of the kitchen, my questions are: Can I use the existing 45A...
