    Advice on laying porcelain

I laid a load in my back garden the other year. Sounds like you have most of it sorted. For the primer I mixed the sbr with cement till nice and green and not tooo viscous. But it does stick like mad, so as u say clean the tops asap. Although I found with mine I could use wire wool to get off...

New Kitchen - Sourcing/Fitting Quartz Worktop

We got our kitchen from DIY-Kitchens and self fitted. We got a Quartz worktop from DIY-kitchens as well. IT was out sourced to, http://www.naturalstonesurfaces.co.uk/ Cant fault the guys at all. They came and did a lazer measure rather then a template. Then a team of 3 came to fit and were...

    Quick drying concrete.

Could you not change the build up? Say 50mm celotex, then the warm up element. Then a 55-60mm screed then the tiles? you only have screed to go off then rather then the concrete and insulation board adhesive before applying the tiles.. Note I am not qualified in any way but its what I would...

On drawing I have from the SE, it shows only 100mm and then on the 215 plate onto the bricks. You think this is too small??

Steel beam install and external faceing

I have the beam in place now. But I still need to get it packed up ready for inspection. https://goo.gl/photos/QU4qB4reW1NMuvAy6 Cheers for your thoughts. I am glad I am not the only one who ends up in this situation! I did do a search, but not found too much relevant. But that is probably...

Steel beam install and external faceing

I'm trying to figure out if my se specified an less then ideal beam. Basically i have a design based on 2 parallel flange channel beams back to back. They are rigidly but bolted together. On the inside i can wedge some wood in the channel and cover with plaster board. But what do i do on the...

Building an Extension within 10m of Railway Boundary

This is true. But if it is a large distance from the boundary to the rails that will reduce the risk of affecting the operational railway. I guess the main things they are worried about is affecting their foundations, making sure nothing will land on the line or could knock out the OHLE.

Building an Extension within 10m of Railway Boundary

The words state, "within 10m of the operational railway" I would take that to be within 10m of the closest running rail, not the land boundary. How close is the nearest running rail to your boundary?

    Under floor heating question.

So it looks like it will be safe, as I guess it should be. It just wont be as efficient a system as it could be with the boiler kicking in and staying on when its not 100% required. Ahh well. Cheers

    Under floor heating question.

I'm looking at installing the poly pipe overlay system in my 1994 property when i knock a couple of rooms together. The boiler is a brand new ideal system boiler on an s plan with a non vented tank. My understanding is that the there will be a new 2 port valve and thermostat to run the boiler...

    Installing a Bifold Door

We are planning to knock out a large hole in the back wall and install a 4.4m aluminium Bifold. At the moment there is a patio door and window which will be replaced with one bifold. See the Red lines on the pic below. As I already know where the edges of the frame need to be, existing brick...

Are you already putting insulation in the floor? If not it might be worth doing that as well??

    Velux installation in new roof

Rightly or wrongly I did not go for any of the extras. I think the rain gutter is only used on roofs where you have the laths running up the rafters as well as 90 deg accross them. I just made my own coller and insulation ring using membrane and spare kingspan from site. Mike

    Velux installation in new roof

We have recently put one in our new extension and had to do the same as you. We followed 4a. Remember to think about tiles sizes and layout, so you can try to place the window in a position where you will have to cut the least amount of tiles. I did not think about this till a bit too late...

Flue change on combi boiler due to extension, issues!

Hi, Apologies for the long message! I have built a small single storey extension on the back of my semi-detached house. Originally the Combi boiler flue came out of the back wall of the house, but this required altering due to the extension. So the local gas plumbers extended the flue...
