    Temperature adjustable ceiling lights

Hi Folks I'm after some buying advice for ceiling lights. We live in a late 60's bungalow which has a full length dormer extension in the roof. I am in the process of modernising the upstairs hallway. There is no natural light in the hallway except the little glass panels above each of the...

Can this type of window be adjusted?

We have 3 "Pairs" of these units upstairs. They are the type that flip inside out for cleaning purposes. All three show the same symptoms where they rub and collide with the frame when closing. This makes for a very creaky and stiff closure of the locks, some of the locking pins have already...

This old wall needs a fillin'

Thanks for the reply. If it's not too much bother can you suggest a ratio of each material please?

This old wall needs a fillin'

We have this old stone wall that needs a little attention in the odd bit. Structurally it looks okay. I'm going to have a got at tidying up the pointing. Should I be using a lime mortar? I'm no expert by any means, should I be looking at NHL 3.5 hydrated lime? possibly a 3:1 ratio with...

Old Kitchen Room to office - walls are bad

Thoughts and opinions on how I should tidy up the walls of our former Kitchen? This room no longer houses our cooking/eating activities, I've stripped most of it out and intend to convert it into a day room/office for my wife. The walls are mostly brick with about 15mm plaster on surface. They...

    Gutter installation question

A symmetrical line that peaks ever so slightly in the exact center ? Achieve this by deliberately having a union dead center? Is this in line with your suggestion?

    Gutter installation question

I have a full length flat roof dormer at the back of my property that is about 16m long. The gutter had outlets at both ends of the dormer. I'm replacing the existing plastic guttering with deepflow plastic. I'm after some advice on best practice to achieve a slope towards each outlet please.

Moved Kitchen but forgot to move outside light switch

If i was starting from scratch that could be a possibility. The cables are all behind facial boards and we'll hidden.

Moved Kitchen but forgot to move outside light switch

I do need to do a bit digging about/testing before I come up with a final solution. The outside wiring just seems to pop out from behind soffits etc, I'd rather keep any additional wiring to a minimum.

Moved Kitchen but forgot to move outside light switch

I feel the "Change all lights to PIR units" might be my solution but from experience I'd probably be walking into dark areas waiting on activation of each unit. We have a small woodland in very close proximity at the back of the house. I'd also worry that on windy nights the tree movement would...

Moved Kitchen but forgot to move outside light switch

Having had our kitchen completely relocated to another area of our house I'm planning on converting the old kitchen into a play/gaming room for my 2 sons. The project is 99% complete but I've now realised that I should have relocated the lightswitch that controls 3 outside lights. The switch is...

Insulation of lean to garage/utility roof question

Interesting, so those joists are 120mm deep. If I used 120mm PIR in those spaces how would I finish the ceilings ? Plain old plasterboard? Also how does this differ from a cold deck style flat dormer roof ? I have insulated 3 rooms upstairs that I assumed needed ventilation so went about...

Insulation of lean to garage/utility roof question

Without a ventilated gap ? Would that not be required ?

Insulation of lean to garage/utility roof question

Or more accurately a ventilation question about insulating the roof. We have a single brick garage/utility room built on the side of our 60's bungalow. My intention is to insulate the utility part of the structure with PIR board between the joists. Having previously used this style of...

Electric Shower + Combi Fed Mixer Shower Questions

Ive done some preliminary testing and come up with a few queries. When testing flows from the existing but soon to be ripped out shower I found its supply and outlet hose to be quite restricted. As you can see the supply tees off from a 15mm feed to what looks like nylon/pvc. Also the...
