    CCTV DVR Help

i doubt there is any chance of sending HD quality video over wireless, let alone multiple cams not just one. just seen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3Sy1YPvkoY i'm guessing even the router they show must be a gigabit router as opposed to being the standard router.. and then imagine...

hi all, I am contemplating on fixing a CCTV system for my house. just a few days back my neighbour noticed a scumbag who hurriedly left our shared drive as he drove in, around 9.30pm! prevention is better than cure is my thinking. have researched a bit on this subject and as i understand...

How efficient are Storage Combination Boilers?

some boilers have a small hot water storage capacity. one example is the Vaillant 937. they provide instant hot water by having heated water in a small storage tank in the boiler. question is, what if the water has not been used for a while? the water in the tank would then go cold...

Boiler makes a banging noise and then dies

Thanks, I know the air vent. Opened it - no water! Switched the boiler on momentarily - air! Tried it a couple of times but its very time consuming as its a pin-hole vent. So now I know a definite fault, although I'm still not sure why it causes such a massive banging noise and shakes...

Boiler makes a banging noise and then dies

Update: Tested the waterflow with a mate in the airing cabinet monitoring the water pump and valves. The flow pipe gets blistering hot. Water pump works though and ultra hot water flows upstairs to the airing cabinet as well. Yet, the boiler makes that massive banging noise and goes...

Boiler makes a banging noise and then dies

thanks there is water in the tank. if i touch the water pump it seems 'normal' (very slight wirring feel to the hand). so the next suspect might be the heat ex-changer.. how do i check that the water flow? from the flow pipe being very hot and the return being cold? thx

Boiler makes a banging noise and then dies

Thanks for your analysis and feedback. I have just climbed the loft and the F&E tank is full. I have a question though: As in the video, every time there's a banging noise the flame goes yellow. with the final 'bang' it goes dead. how can a blockage in the water system cause that...

    Which Water Softener

i have bypassed the kitchen tap and the garden tap anyways. so they remain hard. my preferred route would have been to fit a 3-way tap in the kitchen. i didn't cos: on one side the type of design i have is about £500 for a 3-way!!! on the other side is the potential that the wrong water...

    Which Water Softener

cheers john, i thought the same re metering: it surely must be some rotating fan in the waterway turning as water flows. and not a 'clock' based timer. afterall these are water pressure powered devices... so in effect combi or old fashioned boiler - either way, the regeneration would depend...

    Which Water Softener

thanks guys for all the advise, i have fitted a kinetico 2020HF today. only problem is - the HF is recommended for combi boilers whereas i have a loft tank and a gravity fed system. thing is, its old and i do plan to change next time i have to mess around with the boiler.. so there...

this has been covered, i know.. :) thing is - products change, new products come in, some products go bad.. i'm going to install a water softener. i know what features to go for- twin cylinder, metered re-generation. the question is? which brand? is kinetico any good (i picked up the...

    Kitchen Taps

thanks for that, actually the bit about the kettle was a misquote by me. don' tknwo what i was thinking. anyways my logic was - i needed softened water in the kitchen for cleaning, washing machine, dish washer plus drinking water for cooking, drinking, plus of course the kettle. so a...
