Loft conversion - smoke alarm in ground floor under-stairs cupboard?

Thank you, but it's £150 and drilling into ceilings/walls because it has to be wired.

Loft conversion - smoke alarm in ground floor under-stairs cupboard?

We're at final sign off stage for a loft conversion making it 3 storeys in total. We have smoke alarms in every room except the two bathrooms, and on each landing/hallway. We have fire doors in the new loft. The building inspector has insisted on a smoke alarm in the under-stairs cupboard as...

    Boiler/pipe wining ringing noise

So our plumber has told us to close the valve on the return pipe slowly to see if reducing the flow will make a difference. Hope it does!!

    Boiler/pipe wining ringing noise

Thank you Joe! Noise started again so we turned that valve and it stopped the noise. Turned it back again. Just waiting to hear if noise starts again.

    Boiler/pipe wining ringing noise

I don't think it is vibrating on a joist. We have taken more floorboards up and wrapped towels round the pipe on the joists to dampen the sound and it didn't stop. It sounds like it's coming from within the pipe. The noise transmits all the way down to the boiler. It's driving us insane.

    Boiler/pipe wining ringing noise

I really hope someone can enlighten me here! Our boiler (Main Eco Combi, installed less than a year ago before we moved in) has been making a really loud ringing noise when the heating is on. Stops momentarily when we run the hot tap at either of the taps in the house. I have had a plumber...

    Concrete gutter leaking

Well it hasn't rained much recently so I can't tell whether the additional rubber coating has actually worked. One thing that frustrates me is that the brickwork beneath the gutter is still just as dark so it doesn't seem to be drying out. How long does brick take to dry? Will it be a problem in...

    Concrete gutter leaking

He's been back and used a 'rubber' coating - not sure if that's the technical term - all along the length of the gutter - though he said he couldn't see where the leak was coming from so it was just a shot in the dark. It's dry today, so lets see what happens when it rains. Guh.

Loud high pitched noise combi boiler

Thanks. I will get in touch with the manufacturer then. I would be amazed if the system wasn't cleansed at the time of installation. We have one of those fliter gizmos attached to the bottom of the unit - would that make a difference? :?

Loud high pitched noise combi boiler

Our newish (about 7 months old) Main Eco Combi Boiler has started making a loud high pitched 'wail' about 10 minutes after the heating comes on. It then comes and goes throughout the the time the heating is on. We live in a 4 bed house, most rooms had radiators installed at the time we got the...

    Concrete gutter leaking

Hi burnerman, thanks. What is fibreglass matting? Fingers crossed the weather stays relatively dry. How much would it cost to use liquid rubber front and back? (4bed terrace)

    Concrete gutter leaking

Help! A few months ago we had our concrete gutters cleaned out and lined with fibreglass paint. However, as the photo shows it has started leaking onto our wall. The guy who did the work says he investigated it yesterday and did a water tightness test - sealing each end and throwing a couple of...
