    Decking electrics

An electrical supply to decking will be provided by an electrician (from a spare way on the existing shed CU with RCD protection that he connected a year ago) when he comes to do some other work in the house. I'll ask him to terminate in an external double socket attached to a post, or maybe a...

New Electrical circuit. Suggestions for a "HUB"

You can definitely get a 10 and 2 x 2.5 in, as that's what someone installed in my shed.

Electric from my house to my sheds

I am literally in the middle of doing the same over a very similar distance. The 3 core 10mm2 SWA went in a couple of weeks ago (I got a mini JCB to dig the trench and put the cable through 63mm twinwall conduit) and the sheds are set up with sockets/switches where I want them. The...

Is the latter quote actually true? Would mean the 3% drop can be ignored most of the time.

    3 core SWA colours

Thanks. (DNO earth. It's not a single run of 100m, there are three outbuildings. The property is pretty much ringed on its boundary by the PME supply on overhead cable anyway. The electrician has visited and is aware of the earthing arrangement and 10mm 3 core SWA, but didn't specify colour...

    3 core SWA colours

I need the best part of 100m of 10mm2 3 core SWA to bury in a trench between my house and outbuildings. The connections will be done by a professional (who has approved the design and is happy for me to dig the trenches and bury the cable). 2 quick questions: 1) Is it preferable to use...

    Old, live cable

Plenty of surgical procedures are carried out by non-doctors. You could operate on your friend (with his consent) on the kitchen table with a rusty spoon without fear of prosecution (don't try it on your dog though, that would be illegal unless you are a registered vet).

    Is this ok?

Assuming you can plug in underfloor heating, you could even switch the single plug socket for a dual outlet, which is usually good for 20A. You could use a 5A fuse in the plug.

    Wylex MCBs

Both numbers end up at the same answer phone :) Have filled in the online form.

    Wylex MCBs

Thanks, hopefully Wylex will be in touch. Can anyone who's been involved tell me how they sort it out? Do they reimburse the cost of replacements or do they send replacements out prior to installation?

    Wylex MCBs

My electrician asked me. "With regards to Wylex you might find that the recall is not valid any more (ie they may not pay, as it's outside of the warranty period). Be worth checking and also to make sure we can still get a new 32 amp MCB, as the manufacturers like to change their designs...

    Wylex MCBs

Spoke with electrician. He is happy to fit, assuming Wylex are happy to pay (was worried that the recall was some while ago) and has asked me to check. I called the number and just got an answerphone. I've left a message. Does anyone know if they are likely to get back to me and if they are...

    Raised decking plan

That looks like a lot of posts. Have a look at span tables. Consider installing the posts like this rather than taking all the weight on bolts (or worse, screws):

    Standpipe in garden

I'm about to have some electrical work done which will involve me having a trench dug for electricity to the other end of the garden. I might take the opportunity to have water put down there as well (for gardening purposes). I have an outside tap on the house which comes from pipework in the...

    Wylex MCBs

No, I am asking if I can ask my electrician to do the work and get paid (reasonably) by Electrum - or do I have to ring Electrum on that number and they send their own choice of electrician out to do the work. It would appear that I can do the former (he can ring Electrum and sort out the...

    Wylex MCBs

I was under the impression I might phone them and they might send out their own (sub-contracted) electrician to do the work. I'd rather engage my own. Although it looks no more difficult than wiring a plug, I'm not intending to do it myself. Do Wylex pay the electrician reasonably - I assume...
