    Tanking help

Hello, I am looking for a bit of help with a tanking project. I have a small storage area under the front steps (apx 6ft x 3ft), which is mostly below ground level (I expect it’s the old coal storage area since the house is a Victorian terrace). We have had some problems with water ingress and a...

Taking a spur off a spur: can it be done safely?

Pretty sure. I haven't run a continuity test but the circuit was installed as part of an extension around a year ago. What would the implications be if it turned out to be a radial circuit? You can still run spurs off radials, right?

Taking a spur off a spur: can it be done safely?

Brilliant, thanks so much for the quick replies. So 13A fuse in the FCU and 2 x 2-gang sockets. Sorted.

Taking a spur off a spur: can it be done safely?

Hi there, I wanted to add an extra (2-gang) socket via a spur off the ring main, but on inspection it turns out that the last (also 2-gang) socket is actually a spur itself. Given where the wires run, this is the only socket I could feasibly take a spur from - except that you are not allowed...

PIR floodlight - mains or lighting circuit?

You are probably right. But what if I still wanted to install such a switch on the offchance that they do work?

PIR floodlight - mains or lighting circuit?

They're cheapo ones from a shed whose name starts with W. Cost me a tenner each. I didn't see anything in the instructions about an override function, but it may be possible. Thinking about wiring up an override switch in any case, just can't work out how...

PIR floodlight - mains or lighting circuit?

Thanks bernardgreen, very helpful. I don't suppose that putting a 3A fuse in the FCU would get around the issue you identified? Does anyone have a diagram I could use for wiring up an override switch? Ta

PIR floodlight - mains or lighting circuit?

Hi there, I have bought one 400W and one 120W PIR floodlight (one for the front and one for the back). I am torn between wiring them up to the lighting circuit, or via a fused spur from the mains. Can anyone give me a definitive list of pros / cons? The downstairs lighting circuit (which I...

    Odd-looking ceiling rose

Spot on - forgot to mention that bit! There is indeed a second light on the switch. Haven't looked behind the switch but will post a pic when I get in later. Does that mean it's not dodgy?

    Odd-looking ceiling rose

Hiya everyone, I have been a fan of the forum for a while but just got round to doing my first post... Unscrewed a ceiling rose the other day and I found a strange looking setup - the cable from the lamp seems to be the wrong way round, and there are two extra wires stuck in there. Is this...
