    Hep2o Pipe Clips

Hi all, thanks for your response in advance! Does anyone use hepworth clips with hep2o pipe or just bog standard jobs? No one seems to stock hep clips which leads me to assume the majority of installers using this just go with standard clips. The hepworth range seems to have little lines to...

Dumb central heating flow and return loop question re branching. with terrible schematic.

Hi all, I'm 99.99% sure I don't need to ask this question but I have a brain full of booze addled half dead cells and have come over all Alexandre Dumbass. I am right in thinking there is nothing wrong teeing a 22mm flow and return so in effect braching out into two flows and 2 returns and...

Anyone got any pointers on the questions I asked?

Possibly awkward driveway project drains/foundations etc

The drains only serve myself however whilst I take on your points about replacing them the driveway job is a definite DIY one, like everything else because needs must. I'm pretty confident it just needs proper prep, sub base, haunchings, drainage considerations etc. I've got a good noggin for...

Possibly awkward driveway project drains/foundations etc

Hi, laying a new block pavor driveway however my house has very shallow foundations and drains. I have put a picture in so you can see the lay of things. The drain is clayware and directly below usual vehicle track and has a capped spur running quite close to the topsoil. So first...

Kitchen fitters stretcher plates or angle brackets

Can anyone recommend where to get stretcher plates or angle brackets of different sizes that are adjustable both vertically and horizontally at the same time. Looked at all the diy stores and ebay etc and they all seem to have brackets that have two slots on the same side, meaning you can...

How to diagnose the source of damp

Hi Wayno, It is a sensible cause for the problem, but if you did that work anyway (insulating the walls etc) then definitely worth getting a decent dehumidifier before hand and running that when the windows are shut, and see whether it dries out. Once it's insulated etc it will be even...

How to diagnose the source of damp

I think I would hack off a piece of plasterboard over a dab and see if the dab was actually moist all the way back to the wall, and make sure you test ventilating the house and see if it dries out first. Would be an expensive fix to re-plaster the whole lot and find out it was condensation...

How to diagnose the source of damp

One more thing, I suppose it could also be condensation, I imagine the dabs will be colder as they are touching the external walls. So in theory if you aren't ventilating the property well enough it might explain why these have appeared now whilst your in there and not when the previous...

How to diagnose the source of damp

Actually ignore the chimney stuff, if it is only downstairs and is open like a sort of fake fireplace then what is left is vented. If the damp is upstairs, it's probably coming in through things like flashing pointing etc like Roy said.

How to diagnose the source of damp

Yeah if it is dot and dab should be hollow. It's just quite a common way to hide a damp problem. Roy's advice on finding and curing weak points in the properties defense like bad pointing, slipped roof tiles, leaking roof, unvented chimneys (it might be capped but generally it is advised to...

How to diagnose the source of damp

Actually looking at it again, looks like they have dot and dabbed the wall and it's bridging the adhesive dabs. Is it plasterboarded? Tap the walls to see if they are all hollow, and if they are very flat. If it is then it wouldn't be sulphur I suppose and I might be sending you on the wrong...

How to diagnose the source of damp

Some of the issue could also be from deposits of sulphur from the actual chimney, these tend to show through as a really noticeable yellow staining rather than just damp looking. I have these on two chimney breasts but also the wall in the middle of the two chimneys which has obviously just...

Best pipe size for cold mains and layout

Hi, I have an old lead pipe mains supply (probably 22ish) after the meter it's 15mm, feeds a sink and dishwasher and then splits to feed downstairs bathroom in 22mm and combi boiler in 15mm. Seen several topics on here about issues with shower pressure being affected by other system loads...

Lime mortar outside/gypsum plaster inside - damp problems?

Oh yeah, is the other chimney in your house active and still used as a fire? Otherwise shouldn't the stack be capped at the top with a vent that stops watering coming in but lets it breath?

Lime mortar outside/gypsum plaster inside - damp problems?

Hi Odilon, this is an interesting post as my house has been replastered inside using normal Gypsum based stuff and I was thinking of repointing outside with lime, have you had anything done to rectify this yet and is it showing any signs of success? Interestingly the picture on the room...
