    Copper Push Fit

Thanks Madrab, I didn't know what to expect as I usually use end feed or compression. In fact, we used to use two lengths of copper with an end feed joint as a clothes line prop. Probably best not to try that with push fit.

    Copper Push Fit

I used one of the above today for the first time as space was very tight. The fitting was a straight connector on copper pipe. I'm worried that there seems quite a bit of play in the joint, similar to an unsoldered end feed. Is this normal? The pipes are square and fully inserted as per...

Screws for WBP Subfloor Under Tiles

Which screws should I use for the above? I have bought these http://www.screwfix.com/p/goldscrew-countersunk-screws-3-5-x-25mm-pack-of-200/17189, but I'm worried they might rust. Do I need to use stainless steel? Edit: The link doesn't seem to work. They are Screwfix Goldscrew and it...

    Volkswagen LT Noise

Right, I shall have another look under the van tomorrow. Nothing's ever easy on LTs. The fuel filter being a prime example.

    Volkswagen LT Noise

Thanks, John. There's no wheel arch liner, but there's plenty of cables/pipes underneath the foot well. I've checked for anything loose but they were all in their respective clips. Do you mean something that may appear tightly fixed, could be vibrating on the body somewhere under the foot well?

    Volkswagen LT Noise

In the last few weeks I've noticed a buzzing/vibration noise coming from the passenger side foot well. As the jack and tools are stored underneath a removable panel, I took them and the metal securing bracket out but it made no difference. The fuel filter is also under the passenger foot well so...

    uPVC French Window Lock Sticking

Thanks pinenot. I have contacted the lock manufacturer (Mila), who suggested that the hinges may need adjustment. I have adjusted the hinge horizontally, which helped a little, but the vertical adjustment screw underneath the hinge seems to be over painted and won't turn, so I'm a bit stuck...

    uPVC French Window Lock Sticking

The handle sticks after you have lifted it, when you try to push it down, whether or not you lock it with the key. The handle moves freely when the door is open. I've tried adjusting the round slider latches, but to no effect. The only parts left are the hooks that pop out, but there seems to...

    Timing Belt Procedure Volkswagen LT

Sorry ch427, I meant BBF  , surprisingly, came right after BBE :). The injection pump set up is one part of the job where I know what the garages do: You mark the pulleys before removing them which gives you a rough timing then use VCDS/vagcom to fine tune. If you haven't got the...

    Timing Belt Procedure Volkswagen LT

I see what you mean, Alan. With the cam pulley loosened, the belt is 'pulled' around the pulley, tensioning the entire belt. To explain, I'm not trying to cut corners with the job, but the locking procedure is unclear. The engine fitted to my van is a variation of the old Audi R5 2.5 Tdi. My...

    Timing Belt Procedure Volkswagen LT

Thanks absoft. Genuine Vauxhall belts come with yellow lines on them which you line up with marks on the sprockets and engine, so your idea is well proven. The crank pulley is not keyed to the shaft, however, there are four torx bolts which, along with the main bolt, fasten it to the sprocket...

    Timing Belt Procedure Volkswagen LT

Thanks again, John. I suppose it's £500 for a reason.

    Timing Belt Procedure Volkswagen LT

Thanks john. So it's just a matter of making the belt easier to fit. I thought there was more to it than that. The procedure does seem a little confusing, for example, the camshaft tdc is set and locked by feeler gauges, yet the crank tdc is set by the naked eye from the flywheel with no...

    Timing Belt Procedure Volkswagen LT

Having been flushed with the success of the starter motor and crank pulley replacements and the dreaded fuel filter change, I'm considering attempting the timing belt swap. At a garage the timing belt change costs £500+, and, at the moment, there is a special offer on parts meaning that I can...

    Volkswagen LT Won't Start

The new starter arrived this morning and after another hour or so of work, I tried to start the van and........ it started first time :D However, twice today after restarting after a short stop, the engine has took a bit of starting, first time was nothing too unusual, but the second time...

    Volkswagen LT Won't Start

After an hours work this morning, I removed the starter. The connections were all secure and corrosion free and I can't find any damage to the supply wires so the starter must be the problem. The job wasn't too bad, apart from the difficult access the only other issues were that the starter...

    Volkswagen LT Won't Start

Thanks John :) Good thinking, Julian. I'll have to remove the starter to check the connections, but if you're right it'll save me £116. All being well I'll know one way or the other some time tomorrow. Thanks again. Matt

    Volkswagen LT Won't Start

Thanks for the replies. I tried to jump start the van this morning using a slightly beefier 1.2 car and still just the single clack of the solenoid. The headlamps dimmed while I was trying to start so the starter motor must be getting power; and after a few hours I checked the battery and...
