Music to my ears. Thanks the roof will be fitted Monday or Tuesday. With the DPM and insulation going in Thursday and Friday. Thanks again. I was hoping that was the case.

Laying DPM on wet (from rain) block and beam.

hi all, It’s been a while since I have posted but I return to my favourite place for advice. For various reasons (including an almighty cock up by the company supplying our glass roof)! I need to prepare our floor for insulation and underfloor heating. Whilst I have tried to keep the rain out...

    Pitched warm roof...

As I say it’s a Long story and quite a bit of the roof is vaulted anyway!

    Pitched warm roof...

Yes 140mm inbetween the pitched room timbers or 400mm in the ceiling haven’t decided yet. We will do that afterwards!

    Pitched warm roof...

Hi all, Due to various miss communications I now find myself needing to externally insulate and counterbatten a pitched warm roof (it was meant to be a cold roof but its a long story). Therefore we have 50mm rigid insulation and 50mm x 38mm counterbattens. The counter battens obviously need...

    Block type for Monocouche Render

Hi all, After some advice. We are building a Timber frame house and facing the outside with blocks which will be rendered with the Monocouche XF system. The blocks themselves are not load bearing. We are getting some conflicting messages in regards to the type of block we should use. The...

Concrete upstands for Timber Frame 150mm

I have had a look woody - you are right - I don't think I can use coursing blocks - I can get them in 140mm wide (finding a stockist may be challenging) however they are 65mm deep. Having said that I have forgotten about the 10mm bed on the block and beam base so they would be...

Concrete upstands for Timber Frame 150mm

Hi all, I have just discovered that my concrete upstands, sitting on top of my block and beam floor for my timber frame are 150mm high by 140mm wide (frame is 140 wide). Obviously the width is fine but does this mean that every block is going to be have to be cut down to size - I cannot find...

Starting my Build without Condition Approval - Risk?

Should just add to this comment that you cannot apply for a licence to destroy a roost until you have an approved planning application, therefore this is a process that has to happen after the application is successful. Anyway, the demolition company are booked for Monday, however the council...

Starting my Build without Condition Approval - Risk?

I totally Agree...they have added 2 years to our project.

Starting my Build without Condition Approval - Risk?

That would have been nice but Natural England have been a nightmare - its taken them 6 months to do the licence due to them deciding one word was wrong on the original application - they are a law unto themselves. Also with Bat licences if not done at the time further checks and more costs are...

Starting my Build without Condition Approval - Risk?

Having read further it seems that I could invalidate all of my planning permission by doing this. I need to be careful in that case. The roof has to be hand stripped (part of the bat licence) so I'll ask the contractors to do that and then wait until we have the sign off to bring the machinery in.

Starting my Build without Condition Approval - Risk?

All about extracting more money from you. £116 for this condition release - for someone reading a document and saying yes - effectively they can't say no, its been issued by a higher power than them. Interestingly whilst they do get 8 weeks by the statutory limits the government guidance is...

Starting my Build without Condition Approval - Risk?

Hi All, Just wanted to ask a question - we had numerous conditions on our planning permission and all but one has been released. The one that isn't released is basically the council signing off the Bat Licence that Natural England have issued. We have submitted the application to release it but...

Making a Builder Standpipe...drain cock help

Cheers Fred, thought I was going daft...another question, it will be boxed but how have you normally insulated them, can’t believe normal foam insulation will cut it in the depths of winter.

Making a Builder Standpipe...drain cock help

hi all, appreciate the help in advance. I need to make a standpipe for the builders that meets WRAS regulations and will be inspected by the water company. I have sorted out everything except one item. An in-line drain cock! I don’t know if I am being daft but I can’t find one. Can anyone...

    2 Bed Bungalow into....

I thought I would give an update on where we are - serriously time constrained with being very busy at work and the build planning taking up every spare ounce of time. We decided to go with the Application that was approved by the planners. Finally the bat license (to destroy the roost) has...

    Scaffold design...

Thanks Chappers, have a sample design now from the framers. They will provide detailed design later, think I have enough to get me an estimate. Just need to measure the outside walls.

    Scaffold design...

Sorry timber frame house. Ground and first floor with a single gable. There is also a single storey element, not sure how they get round that. I’ll speak to the main building contractor, thanks.
