    Tap heads

Awesome thanks! Though, HOW do I do that? I can't get enough purchase on it using my hands, would I use a grip wrench type thing with something under it to stop it from scratching the chrome? This kind of thing

    Supporting a desk

I do get your jist. I haven't sorted the batten out yet, but can easily make it that deep and make the relevant cut This seems like the way to go, thank you sir! I don't mention what the span is. What is 'the span' ? :)

    Supporting a desk

That's a good idea! How would I secure it? Screw up into the wood from underneath? It's 27mm thick so deep enough for a screw and hopefully strong enough to not bend, with the above in mind No need for a bracket in that case? Also John, by peg leg you just mean straight down to the floor...

    Supporting a desk

Cheers Js! James - welcome! A large piece of plywood the same size as the desk top? Or just supporting the middle? I thought the gallows type bracket might be the way forward, but how to fix it on? The building is a log cabin, so I can screw the bracket into the wall, or on the floor; but...

    Supporting a desk

Afternoon I just ordered 2 bits of kitchen worktop that I'm going to use as the surface of a desk. It'll have multiple monitors and some studio equipment It'll be in the corner of the room, so I was planning on screwing 2x lengths of wood into the wall and then resting (I'll screw it down, or...

Ceiling rose assistance (not wiring related!)

I just bought a decorative rose that has a cavity large enough so that I can stick it over the electrical rose - is that ok? I read somewhere that this shouldn't be done because access to the wiring is required, but that a 'maintenance free' replacement for the MF rose should be used

Ceiling rose assistance (not wiring related!)

Cheers Owain The light that we're installing has a tiny rose, not even big enough to house the junction box that came with the light. See pic: For this type of light, do I need to have all the wiring in the loft rather than on the ceiling of the bedroom? Otherwise, I don't get...

Ceiling rose assistance (not wiring related!)

Evening I want to put up a polyurethane ceiling rose, but I don't want to lose the existing fitting. Do the slightly ornate versions have any space in the centre for wires etc? In addition, I want to fit a 75mm rose to the polyurethane one, but not sure if I can screw into it? The light...

Repainting old doors - how much to sand off?

Afternoon My house is approx 120 years old, the doors look like they're at least half that, if not more I'm going to re-paint a different colour so my question is how far back I need to sand? I plan to use a primer prior to painting over in eggshell, and know that I need to get at...

    Rated People any good?

I'm sure there are loads of reputable tradesmen on there, but as others have said, they aren't vetted I chose a tradesman who had very good reviews, he quoted the best price and could do it quickly I'm now attempting to get him back to fix the absolute mess that he made of the job...

MCB off - can't locate fault

:D I chuckled Sparky supposed to be due any time soon with the replacement MCB. Figured whilst it looks easy enough to change, I still need to figure out WHY I have an Ex MCB anyway, no point just replacing and hoping for the best

MCB off - can't locate fault

Nope. Well yes, but I don't know how to use it! Someone gave it to me. It's in Russian I think :D I need to buy one though, will see if I can get something today. And then learn how to use it I can't wait for someone to deliver the MCB from eBay so have found them more expensive but in...

MCB off - can't locate fault

Yeah I don't know why it went, would an appliance break the MCB itself? Think an electrician is probably the way forward, but re the replacement, is it this I'm looking for? Haven't confirmed exactly, but in terms of the type of thing: £6 or so? Will tape up that gap too Should...

MCB off - can't locate fault

Yep like everything in this *&%^£$ house, it seems to have been done by someone who either doesn't know or doesn't care what they are doing. My first house, certainly been a learning experience! The box and whole unit is in a boxed off cupboard with a lock on it, do I still need to be...
