    Noraplan rubber tiling

Hello, I've used this forum many times and much appreciate all the advice and help. I wanted to ask if anyone has any advice about the correct preperation for laying rubber tiles onto a 12mm ply subfloor. I've screwed the floor down over existing floorboards and distanced the screws approx 30cm...

    Gloss or not to Gloss

Apologies for this but I have yet another stupid question........ I've painted all my interior doors, skirting and windows in white gloss and have been told that normally this should be painted in eggshell. For some reason I just presumed that all interior woodwork should be gloss because it's...

Thanks - I've already started to put some filler into the cracks and will sand and line with paper in the next day or so.

    cracks in plaster

It's a solid wall - but we skimmed over old bonding. I suspect that cracks from the old bonding are reappearing on the surface. It does sound slightly hollow when I tap around the cracks. Is there anything that I can do? Thanks for your help again Zampa.

    cracks in plaster

Just wondering if anyone can offer me some (more) advice on how to deal with cracks on a recently skimmed wall. I'm thinking of using heavy lining paper on the assumption that it will strengthen the plaster but just wondered whether there was a better way of dealing with hairline cracks. Thanks...

    levelling floorboards

Sorry, I've been away from the computer for a while. I meant both joint gaps and a few larger areas of wear and tear on the boards (mostly courtesy of the electricians rewiring job). Bascially, some of the boards are cracked, chipped etc. and they seem to be impossible to replace. Thanks

    levelling floorboards

~Hello, I've not found anything on the search function and I'm sure this is a dumb question...... I need to level and fill some floorboards before laying carpet - does anyone have any suggestions about what kind filler to use. Thanks in advance

    Floor tiling

I've given up and have finally had to call someone in to sort out my floor. I'm using rubber (Noraplan) tiles and have been told to lay 6mm ply down first - the only problem is I've got something like 45 metres to cover. Too much for me...so.... I'd like to ask if anyone knows what an average...

    Painting over ceiling cornices

No I haven't considered using colour yet and god knows why I thought cornices should be gloss....... I should go and have a look at a few other places. But you'd recommend an eggshell on the cornices? sorry about the stupid question but is eggshell water based?

    Painting over ceiling cornices

Thanks Zampa. I thought that cornices were supposed to be gloss..... I wanted to make the end of the wall and beginning of the ceiling really defined. How are cornices normally painted/treated? The cornices are plaster and are a bit unveven in places - which I'm happy about but I'm a bit...

    Painting over ceiling cornices

I'm about to paint over ceiling cornices and would like some advice....... I want to apply gloss paint but am nor sure about what to do with the current coat of emulsion on the cornices. Can I just paint an oil based undercoat and then apply the gloss top coat? or is there any other preperation...

    Plasterboard... and bonding

Thanks for all the previous advice and sorry about this, but I have another stupid question. Is it OK to put bonding on top of plasterboard before skimming? I know that the point of plasterboard is to cut out the bonding process but I needed to bring it all out another 10mm or so to get level...

    Problems with plastering HELP

Thanks. In my case, the wall doesn't look right now and the plasterer has told me that a re-skim will sort out any problems. Though what really bothers me is the generally uneven surface and a new set of problems with cracks. I was told that these hairline cracks were normal but on investigation...

    Problems with plastering HELP

Yes, I'm probably being a over paranoid - it's just that when I run a straight edge over the wall - gaps seem to appear everywhere. The whole experience of working with plasterers has been a blast...... the plasterer I'm working with at the moment spent some time showing me where the first...

    Problems with plastering HELP

I've had two plasterers in recently to bond and skim some walls. I'm finding it virtually impossible to measure the quality of their work - what do I look for? I've run a straight edge over the walls and there are 2-5mm gaps in places and they feel slightly wavy to touch. I've checked the levels...
