Because - if I did so, I would have a 4 foot tall gate(!) or a wonky 8 foot gate, because 2 lots of 4 foot long pieces of wood would not be sufficiently supported? Or make two 4 foot gates, as a traditional gate, then bolt them together ie cottage door style, which I mentioned origionally?
