    Ethernet cables through backbox

Yes thanks it's 80 Max. I have wifi analyser app so can try the least busy channel , I have a Sonos Bridge in the same room but will relocate that to the next room shortly. What confuses me is that sometimes the speed is good and sometimes not. I also have an old router configured as an access...

    Ethernet cables through backbox

So fired up my old dusty xp machine and tested Internet speed. The results varied by site e.g. 78 ish on one site , 60 ish on another. I think the I pay for 80 down and 20 up. I then checked wireless download speeds and I get good results on 5g but the 2.4g is regularly below 10 and often below...

    Ethernet cables through backbox

I've already run the cables ( some in use, some not ) and my Internet has been a bit unstable. I was worried that routing through a metal back box set up some kind of inductance or electromagnetic field that would cause interference between the cablee. Not a spark so was worried I'd done...

    Ethernet cables through backbox

Is it OK to bring a bunch of cat 5 cables up behind a skirting board and into a metal backbox through a couple of suitably grommeted knock outs? I plan to put a fascia on it with the brushes on so it looks neat. Worried about any field effects etc..from having a metal back box. .

    Lowering ceiling

No responses but cracked on anyway! So put up ceiling successfully, used two long "wall plates" I.e. Long 6" x 2" joists , one of which spanned the bay window. Hung them on pre fitted resin anchors, one at each end, having pre drilled a staggered set of holes through joists for fitting sleeve...

    Lowering ceiling

Still doing this job. When I put joists up between two opposing wall plates, 3.8m apart, do I need to leave an allowance for expansion of the joist?

    Lowering ceiling

So a few questions again before I order the timber. Does my layout look ok or is there a better way? As you can see from the photo , the wardrobes are in with a false wall above them and under the saggy ceiling which has been overboard with insulated plasterboard and skimmed.( if you have a...

    Lowering ceiling

So Ive messed up. I didn't follow foxholes advice because I basically timed out, family bereavement etc. And just paid a plasterer to overboard it with insulated board. Cornice installer has been today and says ceiling is too out of true to install the coving, and has packed up and gone. So back...

    Lowering ceiling

Thanks foxhole, just to clarify wallplates are timber as well? And the 3x 1s would be approx 2.75 long? At 90 degrees to, and either side of a central 6x1 joist 4m long. How far would you recommend spaceing them apart along the 4m?

Thermal plasterboarding solid wall/internal insulation - advice please

I insulated my walls using similar method and room was much more comfortable. Suggest use expanding foam to close any gaps and foil tape so that warm air can't get past insulation to the cold wall and condense.

can i fit stopcocks in my central heating

Hi , thanks for the response. I got the idea because the guy who did my bathroom fitted what looked like stopcocks or gate valves when he was adding two extra rads to the ch. Are you saying there are CH rated isolation valves? Note they'd only be in isolation mode for 3 months then they would...

Improving loft insulation with kingspan in rafters

I think in the original post that was discounted by the poster but is probably the most conventional method. Other options, less mucky?, would be to lower ceiling in the room below and fit insulation there instead. Some of those old terraces have very tall rooms anyway.
