Mist Coat or PVA - Bare Surface Basics

Just checked the tub. Still says "ideal for new work."

Mist Coat or PVA - Bare Surface Basics

I've brought a tub of Leyland Contract paint. Phoned Leyland technical and was told that their paint is actually chalkier than new plaster. They don't recommend using it as a mist paint coat for walls. I was told to water down a tub of vinyl matt for the walls.

How do I finish this step?

I have a singe "step" that consists or a row of 100mm bricks forming a "frame" partially infilled with what I believe to be a mixture of concrete, mortar, and self leveling compound. Despite all this the top surface of the step is not level. How should I proceed? This is an interior step...

Will the caulk disappear once painted over? Does it blend in well with the white primed mdf board?

    uneven walls

I've just fitted a white MDF skirting board in a room that was recently plastered. The plasterer did a great job working with the uneven walls but the problem persists nonetheless. There are up to 5mm gaps on internal and external mitred corners, there are up to 5mm gaps behind the...

    Downlighters?

UPDATE: So I've spoken to LED Hut. The lights are fixed using spring loaded clips to the side of the hole cut out of the plasterboard. They have assured me that the driver can be placed in a cold roof space and that there would be no danger of damage from extreme cold or condensation.

    Downlighters?

These could be just what I'm looking for. Depends on how they are fixed and how large the transformer is. I'd have to drill a larger hole to pop the drivers up above the boards in the cavity.

    Downlighters?

I've installed Celotex PL4000 to the underside of my ceiling joists in my garage conversion. (60mm foam insualtion with a 12.5 plasterboard glued on) The wiring has been installed in the cavity above the the boards between the joists to allow 8 downlights. At the moment the cabling is just...

    Argh! Frustrated by indecision!

You could use K11 tanking slurry. You can get it for as little at £25 a tub. I used it on my walls to waterproof my basement. I know some have used it for ponds etc... If you follow the instructions on the tub properly you can even paint or render over it. Why mess about, just go for the...

    roof ventilation

Ok, got it. Thanks. I fitted my vents today. I fitted one in the fascia in between each joist cavity, front and rear. The front vents are clear and unobstructed but the rear vents have a brick in front of them. There is 30mm gap between the vents and the bricks however. And a 40mm gap...

    roof ventilation

I think I'll just fix the insulation sheets to the underside of the ceiling joists. I won't put anything between the joists but I will put vents in the fascia front and back. So free air should blow across the roof between each of the joist gaps. I just wonder how well this vent idea of...

    roof ventilation

I have a single skin brick shed that I'm planning to convert into a liveable room. The roof is flat 18mm ply on top of ceiling joists. Felt covering. How should I go about insulating the ceiling? If I could lay the insulation sheets on top of the joists I understand this would qualify as a warm...
