Siemens dryer cuts out after some use. Front panel blank, interior light ok.

My Siemens dryer E750 has developed a fault where it cuts out. Engineer reports it's due to a circuit board dry joint; suggested replacement. The machine will turn on and work fine for a while. Then it stops. No power reaches the control panel which looks like the machine is off. But there is...

Unvented cylinder loud crack when water drawn

Sledgehammer to crack a nut. This isn't my field and I have no intention of it becoming so. I just want to understand what the problem might be and how it can be solved before getting someone in so that they can't pull the wool and rip me off...

Unvented cylinder loud crack when water drawn

I have an unvented heating system with a 300L Gledhill StainlessLite cylinder that somtimes emits a very loud cracking sound (https://clyp.it/4ov2ozv0) when hot water is drawn from a tap. Everything works fine except for this sound which can be unnerving for those who don't expect to hear it...

What is justifiable labour to replace a shower enclosure ?

This chap claims that it is a two-man job hence the quote. Would that be reasonable - two people for a whole day? Seems a bit rich to me...

What is justifiable labour to replace a shower enclosure ?

Thanks for all the interesting and entertaining replies  My gut was that it should be around £250 which would be around £35 an hour for a seven hour day. I think the comments back that up, would you agree? I asked because I've been quoted more than double that (over £600) and I...

    Instant hot water taps.

There is a range of instant hot water taps that are intended to replace a kettle. At the low end there's one by insinkerator around £350 and the Quooker is around £1000. Then you go to Zip taps which cost a bomb and are more commercial. I've experienced all 3, the latter being in an office...

What is justifiable labour to replace a shower enclosure ?

I have a shower enclosure that has been identified as the cause of a leak due to age/wear/fitting etc. How much would a reasonable and competent person charge to replace a 900x900 quadrant, removing old excess sealant and re-sealing as necessary (no work needed to walls, tray or plumbing) ...

why might hot water in one bathroom to be tepid ?

Well, it turns out that the problem was caused by the stat on the bath mixer. After turning that through its full range and leaving it on the default setting, everything is now working as it should. The mixer is IS A4616 Attitude Thermostatic Two Hole Bath Shower Mixer with Shower Set.

why might hot water in one bathroom to be tepid ?

The secondary has a Grundfos 97549426 pump on it. Can't see anything separate that looks like nrv - would this be integrated into the pump? The shower controls are a IS A3969NU Trevi TT shower valve. Again not sure, but would any nrv there be part of the valve? getting concerned about...

why might hot water in one bathroom to be tepid ?

Thanks, why doesn't it affect the other bathrooms/kitchen, etc...?

why might hot water in one bathroom to be tepid ?

I think they're pretty balanced. There's little difference between the flow rate with just cold and just hot. I did test to see what happened if I cut off the cold supply to the basin (by closing in-line isolating valve). With no cold supply at the tap the problem was the same, so I don't...

why might hot water in one bathroom to be tepid ?

The room has a bath, separate shower and two basins. Nothing else draws water in that room. The basin taps are mixers, bath has a thermostatic mixer and the shower also has a thermostatic mixer. Both basins get hot if both are on. If one turned off then the other goes tepid. Likewise...

why might hot water in one bathroom to be tepid ?

I just signed up to see if anyone can offer any suggstions with a problem I'm experiencing with my hot water. I've been a reader for a while but never had a reason to post anything until now. A few days ago the water in one of my bathrooms stopped getting hot. Having investigated a bit, it's...
