Tweaking gas central heating settings when heating one room.

I've been tweaking the heating settings for a bit, but I've hit a snag. I'd ideally like to now heat the upstairs, 2nd floor bedroom and third floor lounge, and landing again without heating the kitchen too much. However, I don't have a radiator on the landing. I have a very large radiator in...

Tweaking gas central heating settings when heating one room.

Thanks for the info - that makes more sense. I actually gave this ago, putting the heating to 15 degrees c and putting all radatiors to the frost setting. The gas light only kicked in when turned the lounge radiator up to 5. Hurrah! Should I periodically put the other radiator valves on 1 just...

Tweaking gas central heating settings when heating one room.

I've rented a house with gas central heating and I'm trying to figure out how best to heat only one room. I've thought about getting an electric portable heater, but I gather gas central heating works out cheaper. However, it's a three floor fairly thin house, with the kitchen on the floor...

Filling a gap in door surround - should I/how would I?

There's a small gap by my door surround, where some of the masonry has fallen off. I've not noticed any ill effects - the hole doesn't go all the way through the wall. I rent, so if it goes downhill it won't cost me anything, but I was wondering if this would have any ill effect on the...

Veneer coming away on hollow core door.

Sods law - after noticing damage to the bottom of my front door, I've also spotted that a couple of the hollow-core internal doors have veneer that is coming away from the door. I intend to mention this to the landlord next time I see him, but I was wondering if this is something that can be...

    Damage/rot to bottom of door?

Thanks - I've looked at the floor and there is marks where the door has been rubbing, so it appears friction damage is a factor. I'll give it the tapping test and see what happens.

    Damage/rot to bottom of door?

I rent a house and I've noticed the bottom of the front door corner outside has damage - possibly rot. I'm going to tell the landlord/agency at some point, but should I be worried about it from a security standpoint - I have bolts on the top and bottom. Is there any urgency to getting it fixed...

How do I add a handle to a cupboard door like this?

There *is* something on the frame. I have no idea why I thought there wasn't. As for it being secured, I can't see why - it just contains a curtain rail. So I'm not looking to lock it myself, just add a handle so I can open it without putting my finger int the hole.

How do I add a handle to a cupboard door like this?

I've moved into a new place and there's a cupboard door that, as pictured, has had a handle on previously, but it's been taken off. I'm renting so replacing the door is out of the question. There's no latch on the door, and no corresponding hole in the frame. What I want to do is attach a...

Thanks - I've done that, so all should be okay, fingers crossed. Thanks for the advice, people.

Damage or rot to bottom of 2nd hand table - what to do?

The odd thing is there's no corresponding visible damage on the top of the table. It's solid wood as far as I can tell.

Damage or rot to bottom of 2nd hand table - what to do?

Doh! I thought I put a pic in the original post. I've added one. EDIT: I've actually scraped away the dry wood from the edges of the hole, to leave it looking like the pic below. I've tested other areas of the wood from below and found no soft bits. I'm thinking of adding wood filler to the...

Damage or rot to bottom of 2nd hand table - what to do?

No signs of powder - this hole is actually about 2cm long and irregular. My worry was that it was some kind of rot that could get worse.

Damage or rot to bottom of 2nd hand table - what to do?

I've bought a second hand wood table, and while there's no sign of woodworm, I've noticed this damage on the underside. Should I be worried about this? Is this something that could get worse? And should I cover/fix this? How? Or is it nothing to worry about and I can leave it. Advice...

Boiler's hot water mode only not working.

Well, I wasn't in during the fix but the contractor said that something on one of the electronic control boards had worn and wasn't fully functional. It's now working. Thing is, the fix seems to be a bit... interesting... The hot water dial now catches above where it does. It's not my...

Boiler's hot water mode only not working.

Uh oh - what have I started? Either way, thanks for the advice - I've reported it, and if I'm in when it's repaired, I'll tell you what the fault was.

Boiler's hot water mode only not working.

I've moved into a new flat, and before I report this as a maintenance issue, I thought I'd run it buy the folks here to see if they can figure out if it's a fault or just me being dense. I have a Heatline C24 or C28 condense/combi boiler, and the domestic hot water mode doesn't seem to work...
