2 Course Retaining wall for patio

Going to add a patio to step out onto from new big doors. I need to (I think) build a 2 course retaining wall for patio to suit levels I have. I need about 4mt long wall close and parallel to wall below door sill. And a short wall forming L shape from that to act as step to patio. As I won't...

    Patio flush with Bifolds

Okay, I've looked at other forum posts too. It seems quite straightforward. With a plastic drain this fulfils the membrane you would otherwise put against the wall as you bridge the DPC. However I think as you bed the drain unit into its concrete footing it would be better to plaster the side of...

    Patio flush with Bifolds

Okay not quite flush, just higher than the DPC. So how to mitigate the obvious issues? The photo shows the intended small patio area within the red. My initial idea is to build a small wall along the green line as a retainer for the patio to the right, and leave a trench area to the right to...

Part J - log burner clearances

I was trying to avoid tiles etc, keeping it minimal. Maybe it is possible to create a fine textured rendered skim, maybe tile adhesive for its more workable properties? and/or roller a thin mix on??? then paint that in a darker tone of the main wall colour ...so grey then :-) I'm not just...

Part J - log burner clearances

The extension is insulated but the rest of the room isn't as it is knocked thru to garage. Since it is now habitable space it needs insulating I thought to comply with BRegs. If that isn't the case then a vermiculite board will suffice and cement board over that. I hope you're right!

Part J - log burner clearances

But since this room incorporates an extension then the walls insulation needs to be upgraded and the only place for it is internal in front of the block work. Cheers

Part J - log burner clearances

Not purchased yet, but I was going to go for the same as in the last place since very pleased with it. A Clearview Pioneer 400. I am hoping that I can solve the wall insulation to keep it all non-combustible in the required vicinity, that would seem to be the best option. Thanks

Part J - log burner clearances

Any other ideas for providing non combustible insulation etc to the wall behind log burner and flue? This is a brick and block 2 leaf wall with no cavity that was garage and will become living space. cheers

Part J - log burner clearances

this seems mad to me, but my interpretation of clearances is that the hearth can be free standing 150mm from a wall and the stove 150mm off the back of the hearth, and then there is no requirement for the wall. However an uninsulated flue must be 3x flue diam (so 450mm for 6") away from...

    Shower base prep

Next job is putting the shower tray in. It's low profile (25mm) stone resin. I'm going belt and braces on the solid base, though still want it as flush as possible. So I propose to work on the floor in photo to add as much noggin as possible to more or less fill the whole 1200x800 area. I have...

    just undercoat plaster

Yes that was the plan, I don't think there will be a moisture problem with the plaster, but even if there were, so long as it all breathes should be fine. Perhaps a cementous render would be better, but harder to manage - well for me. I really don't want to dot & dab. I will reconsider the...

    just undercoat plaster

This will be on all walls, but the external walls will have 40mm PIR board between the plaster and the backer boards

    just undercoat plaster

Yes I have all the boards, I was going to get MR PB but in the end I just kept it simple with one product and being able to pick it all up myself without waiting for deliveries. Tiles floor to ceiling on all walls in bathroom No damp problems, solid wall, 1st floor, sheltered low rainfall area.

    just undercoat plaster

I hate dot and dab because of the hollowness. Need to get a load of backer boards up in bathroom. I'm down to brick on all walls and they aren't even enough really, so need to make them lovely and flat. I'm about to slap on hardwall, but can I screw my boards direct to that? any reason not to...

    Bathroom spur plan - okay?

Direct to CU nothing on it and cable is safe zones. Not that I plan to reinstate an electric shower. More concerned on best method to connect fan and mirror lights. Seems like lighting circuit way to go. Previously fan was on the loft socket spur and a mirror light on a separate FCU. Since...

    Bathroom spur plan - okay?

Could do, just that I have a plethora of options. I also have a dedicated 6mm shower circuit, with nothing on it.

    Bathroom spur plan - okay?

Well it did have the extractor off of it, I disconnected it.

    Bathroom spur plan - okay?

Existing circuit is a 2.5mm spur off the upstairs ring, unfused, just to double socket in loft. I want to use this with fused outlet obviously before the double socket, but downstream of that, not sure what's best. I don't think I've added any more info there, but don't know what else to add to...

    Bathroom spur plan - okay?

Oh yes by zone 3 I meant outside the zones, my bad. Very recent RCD consumer unit for whole house, is that sufficient?
