    Flashing bulb

Thanks for the answer folks, understood. I was thinking of RF interference etc.! Funny thing is, when the light has been left on for some time,as we do when going out in the evenings/work etc. The flashing is even more pronounced ( when turned off). Possibly because the gasses have been...

The Bulb on my landing,a Phillips 16w fluorescent type (not the folded tube type,a bulb shape),is flashing very dimly every few seconds when in the off state, I noticed it just now when I got up for a wander (as you do!) The light has been turned off for some 3 hours. Any suggestions,a leak of...

How hard to learn to plaster?

I have just stripped hall, stairs and landing walls of artex. Had that horrible 'tree bark' finish. I used a steamer and a 'Pro' stripper, large handle with an angled head and replaceable blade. Used a standard scraper (Rigid blade) to first scrape the tops of the pattern and expose the...

Removing Wax Crayon froma painted wall

Try Kitchen paper towel and a hot iron, place the towel over the crayon mark and apply the iron. If its a wax crayon the heat should melt it and the towel should suck most of it of the paint. It wont remove it completely but you will be able to repaint. eddie

    levelling floors

Hi Folks, I have recently had two rooms knocked into one and to my dismay the two floors, marley tilers over concrete, are at slightly different heights,up to 5mm in places(!). I have seen a product in the DIY stores called self levelling compound,a liquid product when mixed that is poured on...

    Replacing Fire/surround.

I have just bought a new gas fire insert (no boiler) to be place in what used to be a solid fuel opening. The builder who removed the old fire etc. has taken out the old fire back and I am left with what looks like a load of rubble stuck together with cement. The opening is about 10" higher...

Cutting the dreaded mitres on coving sections.

If you look at the mating surfaces of the coving, there is a 'flat' running along each edge where it mounts against the ceiling and the wall. When putting the coving into the box make sure that the corresponding flat is horizontal in the box. One other tip, dont use the upright side of the box...

    Water system clunk

Hi folks, new member. Just wanted to pass on my experience with pipework clunking. Having just installed a new kitchen, some of the pipework was extended to include a feed for a dishwasher. After turning the water back on(no leaks everything sound!) I was annoyed to discover a horrible clunk...
