@lostinthelight Boiler and cylinder are about the same distance from hot taps etc. The boiler is outside on the ground floor. The cylinder is 1st floor basically above the boiler

He did suggest it. We want to free up the space taken up by the water cylinder (in the bathroom) so a combi seemed like a good idea. I've also been thinking about getting quotes for biomass boilers. Possibility of a govt 5k grant.

Cheers for the replies. I dont think the actual boiler matters. Its something to do with either the gutter or the soffit/facia expanding. Can easily get someone in to fit a sheild and some grease to the relevant parts. Cheers all.

wall is 1970's boiler is several years old at least. soffits, facias and gutters about a year or so old.

Wondering if there are any solutions to prevent the heat from this flue causing the soffit (and facia) above it from expanding and contracting and therefore making a ticking type noise. I was thinking a sheet of aluminium or similar to deflect the heat?

Certainly not.. see post #9. Kids are there so has to be safe. Will have to go the bear trap route.. they can't reach the isolator so theyll be fine ;-)

yep not living there but paying half the mtg. joint ownership.. so I have the right to stand there all day. Could even plug my laptop in and work from the cupboard. the solar would effectively charge it ;-)
