Not able to log into Screwfix

Hi I'm just letting people know that Screwfix have changed their login password requirements to be passwords between 13-20 characters long. I found I couldn't log in on any of my devices last night - and I had no prior warning of this change either so I obviously thought my account was hacked...

Removal of large beam below ceiling

Thanks for all your advice everyone (y) I'll get a structural engineer in to check and possibly have to give in and clad over it, although perhaps he might suggest a more modern and lower profile replacement. It may even be a bonus for the kitchen side to fix on light fittings too as I'm...

Removal of large beam below ceiling

Thanks Blup! Reason for removal on the kitchen side (1st photo) is that I'm planning to have the roof replaced and one made which gives us a vaulted ceiling with nice sleekness and not gnarly old timber! The beam is well split, woodwormed, and people have cut chunks out to feed ducting pipes etc...

Removal of large beam below ceiling

Hi, There is a large timber beam spanning two rooms in my house, which appears to be decorative and not structural. However it's a bit of a monster (about 28 feet long and measures around 9" x 8"), and I really wanted to look for second opinions before I tackle removing it, especially as someone...

Soil-filled subfloor void under Victorian House

Under my carpet was thin asbestos tiles, on top of some kind of bitumen. I guess it was bitumen as it made the drill/grinder smoke a LOT when trying to cut into it! But on the outside of the house are lots of air bricks, so I assume it was originally a suspended vented floor and someone chucked...

Is a 15mA socket rcd available?

Thanks Sarky I just found one - Greenbrook K22WPA10-C. Bit pricey but obviously not as commonplace like the regular Screwfix 30mA cheapies, but obviously it’ll solve the issue. Cheers!

Is a 15mA socket rcd available?

Hi, I wondered if something like a 15mA SRCD is available? I have a socket near my front door which would be useful for external things like jetwashers but I want to avoid tripping my house ring (which is on a 30mA RCD) and to help give discrimination on the circuit. I appreciate that the main...

Anyone know of a Z-wave temp sensor with probe for hot water tank?

Ah…. Luckily I just cancelled the order of that as I read that device doesn’t have the necessary drivers/handlers that work with Smartthings when using a temperature probe… It seems from what I read that it’s waiting for some random guy on the internet (with a full time job doing better things)...

Anyone know of a Z-wave temp sensor with probe for hot water tank?

Thanks Elite123, that looks like an interesting device I've not used before. Will get one and have a play :) Just a minor point is that I don't have a low voltage source of power for it (9-30v) but assume a 9v PP3 would suffice and I'd then enclose it all in a small ABS box.

Anyone know of a Z-wave temp sensor with probe for hot water tank?

Hi I want a z-wave device to measure the temperature of my hot water tank so I can control the boiler (it has a Fibaro switch). Ideally a sensor unit with a probe I can insert into the tank's sensor pockets rather than tear a gash out of the jacket for a surface mounted one (i.e. Secure SES002)...

Using OB1 to seal shower tray and wall

Gap is between the top of the tray and the lower edge of the boards - they’re not resting on the tray, but fortunately(?) are above it and not behind it (i.e tray isn’t pushed up against the boards). There was an edging strip fitted which I’ve removed.

Using OB1 to seal shower tray and wall

Hi I’ve not used OB1 adhesive/sealant before and wondered if it’s suitable for sealing the gap between the shower tray and plastic wall panels? I’m not sure how it finishes off when cured and if it’s any better than silicone? There’s a small amount of movement on the wall boards (which I can’t...

    Hate Crime Incident

Dolls are meant to be a play thing for kids and so should be the least likely thing to cause offence. If they were only made in white there would soon be a lot of moaning! Sometimes some people have too much time on their hands.

    Odd part found in dishwasher

Aha! - just to put an end to this.... I asked my wife and she said she washed a load of kids toys from our local playing field in the dishwasher. So there you have it -- there's always a valid explanation for unusual things!!

    Odd part found in dishwasher

Brilliant than you all! Seems like a kid's toy of some sort and I don't have any kids so I'm completely puzzled how I ended up with one of those parts in my dishwasher!!!

    Odd part found in dishwasher

Hi, does anyone recognise this unusual part (pictured)? I found it inside my Bosch dishwasher - and bizarrely it was inside the cutlery basket! It's about 2" square and looks like the feet clip into something and maybe the arms carry 3-4 rods. All of the internal racks, blanking plugs, plastics...

    Garden Hose Nozzle Recommendation...

I just bought a couple of the BWF26 Spear & Jacksons as mentioned by ETAF above, and they have a very nice & solid feel - and have a brass fitting. Was going to get just one, but saw Zoro gave free delivery over £20 so I got two as effectively the second one was half price :)

    Garden Hose Nozzle Recommendation...

I’m praying you get some good answers here as I’m yet another in the same predicament :( Seems the general opinion is to go with brass fittings but with things like the spray gun l’m not so sure brass ones can do all the spray patterns. My local store wanted £30 !!! for a hozelock sprayer, and...

Metal Double Socket - replaced but safe?

Non-contact testers are not the best way of testing, and are not recommended by the IET. What you’re getting is just an “alarm” that live electric is close-by. You’ll get exactly the same when moving close to a L terminal on a plastic socket. These devices are not accurate, not entirely to be...
