Hi all, just a quick update. Managed to get an appointment on the weekend for this morning. Bosch guy just came. He did some further testing and found that something was going up and down while the machine ran - suggesting a leakage or something, although he's not an electricians so csan't be...

Too late, my bloody partner told them when the engineer came first a few weeks ago. He even mentioned that if the machine is faulty, then we may not be eligible for a free repair or replacement because it was damaged by us (the leak). Which is nonsense, because water didn't even touch the machine.

Dishwasher ran fine first night after the socket change, but tripped twice last night. Electrician is due to come back and do some testing, however I'm thinking I should ring Bosch because it's under warranty. Last time I went on the website to book, there were no slots!

To be fair to him, when I rang him last week, I told him we needed to change a socket because all was working fine on the extension lead, then it tripped a day or so before he came. I probably should have let him know before coming, as he may have rearranged when he had his new/fixed test equipment.

Was that discussed in this thread? Sorry, must have missed that.

Well the electrician charged £45 this morning for being with us an hour, so I don't see £15 being that much just to see if the old plug/cable could have had some water damage after leak.

Because the machine is under warranty and best to use original parts? I don't know really, just seems more sensible?! Plus I can't find a cable that's the same for cheaper - it looks like it's got an unique fitting...

Well, I did notice the plug getting a bit warm on the extension lead when running the dishwasher. Should that happen?? I have been thinking of buying a replacement plug as well, they're around £15 for a genuine Bosch one. Just to see.

Electrician came this morning, but his tester packed up yesterday so has had to order a new one! Typical! He's changed the socket, but was wondering if the plug could be overheating because the dishwasher buts up quite close to the socket. And he thinks that the tripping on the extension lead...

Haha, well that's what causes me stress - would much prefer if it was straightforward! Doesn't help I'm a worry wart over things anyway. Thanks for the help.

I'm getting confused now by this original potentially damaged socket. The dishwasher isn't connected to that socket now, it's connected to another socket in the kitchen. via extension lead. So can it still be problematic, despite being switched off at the countertop and with nothing plugged...

Which does rule it out being a potential problem now I assume?

Oh is it? And there I've been fiddling with it with it turned off on the counter top! I can't see any burning or arcing to be honest, but like I said before, the leaking pipe went horizontally above that socket (poor design), so could have been exposed to water.

When I opened that socket up I did notice that the earth cable (yellow and green right?) had 1-2mm of copper exposed - not by the connections to the socket but close to the grey outer sheath. As if it was nicked or sliced when cutting the wires. But then the socket is off in the wall now, so...

Not at the moment no, and looks ok to me, Although I didn't inspect the connections inside closely.

No, no work carried out before the issue began. Dishwasher was tripping electrics when running. Pulled dishwasher out to discover a leak behind the plasterboard approx 1ft away from the dishwasher socket. Had the pipe fixed, waited 2 weeks for the area to dry, plugged dishwasher back in, but...

Can these things be figured out without having to hack into walls etc?
