    Cooker tripping the electrics

Evening all We have a holiday place in Spain. It was empty for about 10 years when we bought it. The oven is a built in oven with a separate hob made by a company called Teka and is pretty much brand new (the previous owners bought the place, did a few bits and just never used it). So, you...

    Central Heating with TRV question

Hi Fixitflav Thanks for that. I have done that once before and it's been ok since. Now, it's fine if it's left open but then just sticks again the first time you close it down at all. Now is the time to feel the pain of a cold bedroom until I can do it properly, I think. I just need to read...

    Central Heating with TRV question

Hi Muggles Ah! Yes! I've just been looking at a techy type diagram of a TRV and I think I see it now. So the thinner white bit between the tail and the wider white bit on the rad comes out and is replaced by one that has a 15mm thread. I've been puzzling over this for too long now. All my...

    Central Heating with TRV question

Just had our boiler replaced. 20+ year old Glowworm which was starting to show signs that it would probably fail. It was one with a separate water tank and our hot water was woeful in terms of pressure. Replaced with a Glowworm combi and wow! Hot water at mains pressure in an instant. I...

    Grundfos 15-50 130

The arrow on the pump body was the same as the old one so I'm guessing that's not it.

    Grundfos 15-50 130

I think that might be a good job for while there's nothing better to do. The only problem I have is that the boiler is on the kitchen wall and there is very little space between the top of the boiler and where it goes through the ceiling.

    Grundfos 15-50 130

That looks interesting. Where did you fit it?

    Grundfos 15-50 130

99% sure as when I first fitted it the heating seemed to be really efficient. Looking at the stats for the thermostat, on days when the outside temp was similar, it went from 7 hours to get the house from about 16 degrees to 19 degrees down to about 4 hours. But the pump was noisy then. In...

    Grundfos 15-50 130

Ah! Just found an answer on Screwfix that says "If you have a 15-50 130 then this is the pump for you". So I think I'll grab one of them and bin the one I fitted less than a week ago. Buy cheap, buy twice!

    Grundfos 15-50 130

I replaced my central heating pump with some cheap thing off Amazon and I suspect it's a pile of rubbish as from installation it's been like a jet taking off in the airing cupboard and now the boiler just keeps locking/overheating and I have to press the button to reset it. I've tried bleeding...

    Old central heating pump

I can't think were it would be leaking. This house was built in the 60s with hot air heating. That was replaced at some point with central heating so most of the pipes are visible. Pretty sure we'd see a leak one way or another. There is a header tank in the airing cupboard. The ball valve...

    Old central heating pump

Hmm... I wonder if we've got one of those? Just looking at the stats for out central heating system (Netatmo) and it took 7 hours yesterday for the lounge to get from 16.2 degrees to 19 degrees. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes tomorrow on a full run.

    Old central heating pump

Just changed the pump on our central heating. What a difference! It was taking 2 to 3 hours for the radiator in the lounge to warm up and the boiler was making lots of clanging and banging noises. 10 minutes after I powered everything up, the radiator in the lounge was warm. 30 minutes later...

Need a "thing" to shut off an isolation valve

Hi Yep, a thing. I've searched online but I'm not sure what term I need to use to search. I need to shut the two isolation valves off to change the pump. It's in an awkward location so getting to it with an adjustable spanner or mole grips runs the risk of messing the square head up. Can...

    Boiler woes

Cheers for that, oilhead. My house is highly automated. I don't think there's a single light that isn't controlled by a sensor, smart switch and/or voice. The heating uses a Netatmo thermostat which is linked to the weather station in the garden so it adjusts the schedules and everything...

    Boiler woes

Is that what this means? I did some googling but couldn't find anything about this. I wasn't sure if it was a joke and was afraid to ask! :) (The comment about the pump police, I mean, not your reply)

    Boiler woes

That was quick! Thank you. The issue there is that the plate with the markings is about an inch from the wall. I've found one which is supposed to be an equivalent to Grundfos pumps. I've ordered it. I'll take the pump out when this one arrives. Either it'll fit and I'm laughing, or it...

    Boiler woes

Evening all We have a Gloworm Fuel Saver F boiler which has been well looked after and is pretty efficient albeit getting a bit old. Recently it's started making a weird noise. It sounds like a plane flying over. Not loud, but at the end of its firing, it starts quite high pitched and get...

    Electric Kiln

Thank you for that! It's good to have opinions from people who know electrics but probably more so to have someone who knows how kilns work. This makes much more sense.
