    Mapei Primer G

I bought a Mapei tanking kit for my shower and followed the instructions, all was well. I then bought some more Primer G to do the whole bathroom as i'm using a cement based adhesive for my tiles so thought it would be a good idea to prime the water resistant plasterboard. Now I have just...

    Combi boilers and water softeners

That's good to know, but as I said earlier, there is no need to fill the central heating system with softened water, its easy enough to put it on bypass. The real problem would be if softened water was unsuitable for the hot water side, as it would mean you wouldn't be able to use soft water in...

Tiny amount of flex in shower tray

I thought about that but instead I've dug a little bit of mortar out and pumped in some loctite metalset, it sets as hard as nails so tomorrow I will see how it fairs up. I know its a bit of a bodge but it was hardly moving anyway, you couldn't see or feel it by looking at it or standing on it...

    Combi boilers and water softeners

I said a full kettle, most people use a kettle as cold coffee isn't very nice.

    Combi boilers and water softeners

I'm not saying that its a significant amount of water, but why cause the softener to regen more often by wasting soft water and adding salty water into a system filled with steel. Watering my garden with softened water would cost pennys but I still don't do it because there's no need. The same...

    Combi boilers and water softeners

like I said, if you use inhibitor it probably counteracts it, especially if you the Sentinel stuff states its ok as you said above. But I don't understand why you would want to waste softened water and no just put the loop on bypass. When I went on holiday this year I came back to a trickle of...

    Combi boilers and water softeners

Probably a very very long time, especially if you use inhibitor. I'm not sure if the inhibitor would counteract the corrosive properties of softened water anyway. But its not best practice and you don't want rusty coloured water and bits of rust flowing round your CH system

Tiny amount of flex in shower tray

I have recently fitted a 1200x800 stone resin shower tray as per the instructions which was 10mm ply and 15mm mortar mix. Its one of the sloping ones with a fair bit of meat to it Half way into the job trying to level it up I realised the tray wasn't perfectly flat one of the corners, it wasn't...

    Combi boilers and water softeners

I have a water softener and noticed in many boiler instructions it says not to use softened water in the filling loop and also as a supply for the hot water. After much research on the net it seems that its unlikely to affect the aluminium heat exchanger and as the boiler manufacturers havn't...

Is moisture resistance plasterboard a requirement

In the end I bit the bullet and have started stripping one half of the paramount board off and installing some decent sized studs at 400mm centres to give the new plasterboard something strong to screw to and then used some grab adhesive and some smaller off cuts of wood to secure the existing...

Is moisture resistance plasterboard a requirement

Replacing the paramount isn't an option as it would mean redecorating the adjoining bedroom. I find it strange that you don't recommend tiling straight onto plaster board as I bet that is what happens 99% of the time anyway So you recommend using tile backer board instead? There are no studs...

Is moisture resistance plasterboard a requirement

Hi, I'm currently building a shower room/en suit. The upstairs walls in my house are made up 2 pieces of plasterboard with cardboard in the middle all glued together and from my experience its a pain when re-tiling them as there is no structure to screw a piece piece of plasterboard to. To make...

Strengthening options for joist with large notch

Thanks for the suggestions, in the end I went with a plywood sandwich and hammered a block of wood in between for good measure. As it happens the uneven part of the ceiling is actually on the joist next to it and must just be the uneven artex. At least I have piece of mind now

Strengthening options for joist with large notch

Your right, it doesn't really matter about adding super strength to it as there isn't a lot of weight in the bedroom now the ensuit has gone. But my main concern is to cut out as much flex as possible. At the moment the living room ceiling is artex which is probably why it hasn't cracked, but...

Strengthening options for joist with large notch

Hi, I am in need of a bit of advice on the best way to add strength to one of my joists that has had a large notch cut out of it. Basically some moron fitted an en suite (which I have since ripped out) and they notched out one of the joists to accommodate the trap for the shower. The notch is...
