    quick update, did the ceiling with that zinsser, €35 for 2.5 lts :shock: it was well worth it. did the topcoat and it looks great now. thanks for the help guys. now back to the grindstone lol

    thanks for the tips guys. will give the polycell basecoat a try, have not got time at the min to sugar soap a ceiling and then use oil based stuff on it. will let you know how i get on.

    gloss paint problem

    ermm, upon reflection i remembered that i did not actually tell the guy in shop that it was new wood. my flaut. :oops: went back and got primer, plus picked up a cheap sander to correct the previous mistake. ready now to put on coat of primer. thanks for the help folks.

    plaster or lining paper?
