    Early Recycling

Wouldn't know where to start to be honest. I need to keep releasing air out if my highest rad, and not sure if that points to anything.

    Early Recycling

Boiler coming up to 7 years old and warranty will expire in March. It has been serviced annually on the dot. It is currently working very efficiently with pump on highest setting, but concerned as noisy, very hot to the touch, and that it might seize up if clogged. Got my gas engineer coming...

    Early Recycling

My Vaillant boiler has started to perform differently. It now starts to recycle early after a few minutes when flow temp is 40 or 50 degs. The recycling symbol flashes for 10-15 mins then the boiler fires up again until target flow temp achieved. I called Vaillant out under warranty who fitted...

    Getting the Room Temp Right

Thanks for the quick replies. Boiler is a Vaillant Ecotech Plus 418. Stat is just a standard wired Honeywell.

    Getting the Room Temp Right

Have switched from a conventional boiler to condensing and have noticed the difference in the room stat temp to required temp. I initially calibrated room stat to make sure that was OK. At the moment, I have the boiler coming on when temp reaches .5 deg below desired temp. (20.5). After the...

    Target Flow Temp Being Exceeded

HI Dan, thanks for your reply. Had a new cylinder fitted when the boiler was installed (Feb 2017). I have a stat which is connected to the cylinder (Drayton), which have set at 55. Hot water temperature seems fine. I was wondering if it had anything to do with the fact that the boiler hasn't...

    Target Flow Temp Being Exceeded

My boiler (Vaillant eco-Tec +418) was installed around 18 months ago and has been working fine. However, I recently noticed that the target flow temp is being exceeded. We control room temp via the room stat, so whilst it is on at the programmer, the CH obviously doesn't come on this time of...

    Room Stat Problems

Got this sorted. Didn't expect a new stat to need calibrating and to be out by 5 degs. Tried to get the dial off before, but appeared that it didn't come off. Got it off anyway, and ensured click off was room temp as per independent thermometer, and put the dial back. Job done

    Room Stat Problems

Thanks for your reply Old&Cold. I have had one digital and one normal thermometer propped up on top of the stat for a couple of days. This is what I have found. At the moment, both thermometers are reading 20.1. Switch off temp on stat is 16.5 and switch on 16.0, so that in itself is working...

    Room Stat Problems

Just had a look at fitting instructions, and it says ' a neutral connection must be made when the heating load is less than 6 amps'. Assume it must be as neutral wire is connected to terminal 2 in the box. I have blue wire in terminal 2, yellow in 3 and red in 5. Thanks for your reply.

    Room Stat Problems

Decided to change room stat as current one old and starting to have 2/3 degs between turning boiler on and off. Just wanted a basic dial model, and purchased a Drayton, but whilst it clicked on it wasn't clicking off. Replaced it with a Honeywell T6360. Works OK, but the click on/off is around...

    Gutter Clearing

I thought this was worth an update. The chap who I selected to clean my gutters, arrived on the dot, and he brought his nephew with him. You can usually tell after the first couple of sentences with someone whether you have made the right choice and it became quickly obvious that I had. He...

    Gutter Clearing

I think that proves my point, it's a load of cropspray. Moreover, the £30 is irrelevant, it's all about paying a fair price for a decent job. Clearing a bit of crap out of a gutter hardly needs a City & Guilds, but kudos to anyone who climbs up ladders and on roofs. I wouldn't do it.

    Gutter Clearing

OK, I'll play along for a bit. Man puts ladder up against front of house. He climbs ladder with bucket and trowel and clears out guttering. He then goes round the back, puts ladder against back of house, climbs ladder with bucket and trowel and clears out guttering. He comes down ladder...

    Gutter Clearing

Unless you are using people who have done satisfactory work for you before, it's all a gamble, but if the job they do is crap, then they will come back and do it properly. As for being their employer that is nonsense, I am a customer, they are their own employer unless they are working for a...

    Gutter Clearing

Can't say that I have, but people who climb ladders for a living, usually know how to take their own necessary precautions. However, accidents will happen in many manual jobs. Are you saying I should be paying for their insurance? It sounds like some people think that there are more taking...

    Gutter Clearing

There really are some tits on this forum. This isn't the first time I've met with a load of sanctimonious ****e, when I've come on asking reasonably for some advice. The bottom line is I won't be ripped off by workmen, and charging £80 for less than one hours work is just that. Half a day for...

Latest quote £50, so that sounds much more reasonable to me.

    Gutter Clearing

I haven't got the equipment to do it from ground level, and ladders and me are best kept apart. I've done the garage and utility room gutters but have a blockage at the drainpipe end of one of the upstairs ones. Was expecting it to be around £50, as didn't think it would take that long, but I...
