That is very helpful, thank you so much for your effort. Ive only done basic 2way in the past like run a 2way landing light, so when there are more wires as in this case i get lost.
Just out of curiosity as im not a sparky but a carpenter, the 2nd picture you gave with the spur feed i was wondering if the wiring be the same if the spur feed was replaced with a feed from another light / ceiling rose?
Thanks again andy, ive alreading fitted 35mm back boxes and i do indeed already have 1.5mm cable thats the main reason why I'd prefer to use that size.
When i say 2core i think im confusing things. And misunderstanding the cable. I mean to say 1.5mm twin earth lighting cable which includes the earth cable that needs the sleeving and 3 core and earth for the 2way switches only.
Thank you for the response much appreciated i am unable to work a spur and need to get the feed from the existing light circuit. I was wondering if this next layout with an additional 2core and earth feed be more acceptable.
Hi all i am wondering if someone can advice me on the supplied drawing. As it stands the only thing in place is the power in, ceiling rose and single switch. And i am unsure if this layout is correct. I only want to run the cable ready for the sparky as hes away at the moment for me to ask and i...
Thats what i first thought but when i looked the step is very big and will be difficult to remove. Also if i do remove it do i then need to replace it with 2 lintels as theres nothing underneath except a soul pipe running into the house.
Hi all im in need of bricking up a outside door opening and coverting it to a window in a old 1940s house and my question is that the outside door step is level with the internal floor level. The outside ground level is about 5inchs below this and the door step a large sort of concrete lintel...
This whole floor is being levelled to another as a wall was removed so all 4 depths mentioned in my original post needs to be raised. I ran a level off the higher floor and placed multiple packers along each line until I got to the end of the room which left me with 3mm in the one corner. the...
Hi all I'm struggling to work out how many bags of deep base self levelling compound I would need for me room as all 4 corner run out differently. For example
Too left corner = 3mm -- Top right = 28mm
Bottom left corner = 20mm bottom right = 38mm
I thought it was to add all 4 values then divide...
Hi all just a quick question for a total newb when it comes to rendering etc. I have brick walls that once had old black mortar render applied to them and was wondering the correct way to apply a scratch coat to this.
What is the best way to clean the brickwork prior to scratching the walls...
Sbr was advised by a builder to help until I have the outside render redone. I have repaired the render now but sbr is going to used as a precaution. No water gets in at all now and no damp has appeared since. The wall has been prepped with stainless steel hooks to help bond to the brickwork...
Hi all just a quick question to all the people that know this field. I am about to start a concrete shuttering of a wall that's stepped in only about two inches. Anyway this walls gets a bit damp and before I begin concreting I was told to sbr as a primer and then concrete while it's still...
So I have now took the walls back to brick and I'm still unsure on the best method and what type of plasterboard to go with in my scenario. I am currently looking at insulated plasterboard and not separate kingspan sheets, but am I best battening this type of plasterboard or dot and dab or can...
Thanks for all your suggestions guys. The tiny area where the water was coming in has now gone I noticed outside on the render that there was a crack running about a metre in length horizontally. My friends a builder and he advised me to seal the crack temporarily as I do intend to have the...
Hi vinn,
No cwi also you helped me the other day in another thread regarding that and bettening lol. I have not bricked up the cavity but the back brickwork where the chimney breast was doesn't hold a cavity but the inner wall is bricked back to back to the outer wall. This is about 1200mm wide...
Hi all,
I have just finished removing a dorment chimney breast upstairs and I'm halfway done on the lower floor. (Loft chimney breast and chimney was already removed 30yrs ago when we had a new roof) anyway this chimney breast was removed to increase space in the upstairs bedroom and the...
I think the surveyor meant that the cavity was not solid as there were multiple spots missing the cwi. Basically it was a botch job by cowboys. The whole process was rectified by the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency CIGA and once they done their job the council sent out another surveyor and an...
