    The Ecotec 843 has an ajustable nominal heat input for heating from 4.5Kw/h to 33.7Kw/h and is capable of delivering almost 18 litres per minute of hot water. you might need to add an external expansion vessel if your system volumn is excessive as the one fitted is only10 litres.

    The model number denotes the Kw output for hot water so the 838 gives you a maximum of 38 Kw/h to water which in ideal circumstances would gve you almost 16 litres of hot water per minute at your taps/shower, the heating output however is only 28Kw/h maximum not 38Kw/h as you might expect for...

    I see where your coming from Bob, maybe some pipework was altered when the boiler swap took place and 4 months ago he wouldn't have noticed the problem as chances are the heating was being used.

    As its your radiators getting warm why would you want to turn off the gate valve to your cylinder coil? When you select HW is the 3 port valve heating pipe getting warm 18" or so from the valve?

    The round sight glass kit Part No 307A251 is listed as obsolete but there is one on ebay for £24.99 its described as new Sight glass Myson Apollo/Thorn Olympic 307A251, hope this helps.

    I would think you need a S801201 membrane cover & a new S801191 diaphragm but you might need a new S801199 microswitch if water has damaged it.

    If the pilot light is ajusted correctly cherry red would be better, over cooking them will shorten their life expectancy.

    Thorn became Potterton Myson & then Baxi Potterton so you could check with them for parts availability. BG were famous for saying parts are no longer available for an appliance but it didn't necessary mean the part you needed weren't just that some parts on it were not, remember their engineers...

    Balanced flue question

    Probably a 40 year old Ideal Concord if you ask me, flue gas temperature of around 250 C compared to 50-60C from a modern condencing boiler, no brainer, change it.
