    HW/CH flow and system type

Cylinder heated up eventually but took a while. I guess it's working less efficiently as it may have scale buildup on the outside of the hot water coil inside the cylinder and perhaps additionally sludge buildup narrowing the inside of the hot water coil. Thanks for your advice Ian.

    HW/CH flow and system type

I'm beginning to think now that it's just takes a lot longer to heat the hot water than my own hot water cylinder, which takes far less time and gives you an indication quite soon after turning on the hot water. Perhaps flow has become a little restricted over the years. Anyone know if it's...

    HW/CH flow and system type

I was worried about leaving the HW on for long with the HW circulation being suspect but I decided to leave it on for longer than 20 minutes to see if the cylinder temp changed and it does feel warm now. It seems like an awfully long time to feel any heat and I've had it in for over 45 minutes...

    HW/CH flow and system type

Re the CH zone valve, that's what I thought but it's been like that since the system was installed in the 80s I'm sure?? I know that even though the valve shows the direction water should flow it is possible for water to flow in the opposite direction as it doesn't prevent that with just a...

    HW/CH flow and system type

Hi, Here are the photos of the pump, zone valves and cylinder connections. Please disregard the drawing (now deleted) as I had the HW and CH zone valves marked round the wrong way. They are correctly marked in one of the attached photos. Please note that the direction of water flow, according...

    HW/CH flow and system type

Thanks for your advice. I will take some photos on my next visit on Monday and post them here. I was hoping my drawing would be good enough but I can appreciate photos will be more accurate and show more. The X800 was only in for 24hrs, as advised on the bottle and flushed out, as there was...

    HW/CH flow and system type

Hi, I replaced a faulty zone valve on the hot water side of what I believe is a S-plan (cold water tank + expansion tank in loft), vented, indirect heating system at my mother's house. The valve, a Drayton ZA5, had seized but additionally the head's microswitch back lugs holding it position...

Grohe Concealed Cistern Stabilising Frame Removal

Worked this out after returning to it about ten minutes ago. The two pillars either side of the middle clip are actually runners designed to slide up and down a track molded into the cistern side. To free the middle clip (or stop) on both sides just needs the side of the cistern bent outward...

Grohe Concealed Cistern Stabilising Frame Removal

Hi, Does anyone know how to remove what I believe is named the stabilising frame in the type of Grohe concealed cistern I have (see attached image)? I have circled where the frame clips into the cistern. If I bend outward the nearside of the cistern to try to release the clips from the holes...

Potterton Suprima 60L - ignores timer and overheats water

Okay, so I shut off the power to the entire system and heard/watched the levers on the valves return to the off position. One seems to not go the entire way but I could be misreading this, I guess. The valve is a Drayton of some model (couldn't make out model) that has "A<->B" and an indicator...

Potterton Suprima 60L - ignores timer and overheats water

Thanks very much for your reply. So the hot water two-port valve can trigger the boiler to fire up even though the HW timer is set to the off position? Assuming it is the two port valve stuck open, could moving the A<->B lever on the side of the valve housing loosen and free up the lock? I...

Potterton Suprima 60L - ignores timer and overheats water

Hi, I have a Potterton Suprima 60L that is heating the hot water cylinder to a very high temperature, even with hot water on the external timer set to the off position (no red LED on timer to indicate it is on and CH is also off). The status LED on the boiler seems to indicate the boiler is...
