    Spur off Immersion Heater circuit

I don't particularly want to use the 10mm but as it will become redundant when I remove the electric shower, I thought it would be the simplest way of wiring up a new FCU. Put simply, what is the best way to use that circuit to feed a 3amp FCU? I've no plans to install a new CU!

    Spur off Immersion Heater circuit

Thanks for the quick response. Just to clarify, after taking out the old shower, the only item I need to run off the circuit is the shower pump, via a 3amp FCU, so no risk of overloading. You're right about the 30amp JB - I guess a larger one may be needed to accomodate the 10mm - but is it...

    Spur off Immersion Heater circuit

Many thanks for the response. There is another option - I shall be removing the existing electric shower that has a dedicated circuit run with 10mm cable. Is it possible to connect the 10mm cable to a 30amp junction box and then run 2.5mm T+E to the FCU? Please advise - nothing else will...

    Supply pipes for Shower

I am installing a new shower (Aqualisa Axis Digital) that incorporates a small pump and requires 15mm supply pipes. I have received conflicting advice regarding hot water supply and would appreciate advice on the following:- 1) The simplest solution appears to be putting a branch in the HW...

    Spur off Immersion Heater circuit

I need to install a 3amp FCU for a new shower pump. Ideally I wish to situate this in the airing cupboard but the one (easily) accessible socket already has a spur feeding the burglar alarm control unit. Can I take a spur off the IH circuit (which is protected by 16amp fuse), or will I have to...

    Unable to find CH draincock

The boiler is an oil fired Danesmoor and I have checked this but no sign here either. I've also checked outside but to no avail. All seems a little strange - I note the previous owners cleaned / replaced inhibitor in the system from time to time so how did the engineer drain the system...

    Unable to find CH draincock

I need to drain down my CH system to remove a radiator but cannot trace the draincock. I assumed it would be on one of the ground rad valves (probably close to the boiler) but there are none. In fact, the only two draincocks I can find are at the main stopcock and on the inlet to a cloakroom...

    Danesmoor DF20/30 Boiler problem

I've bled the hose to ensure the oil is getting to the pump smoothly but am not sure where to locate the bleed valve on the pump itself - can you describe what I should be looking for (is it a black hexagonal nut close to where the oil hose enters?). Many thanks for the constructive advice so...

    Danesmoor DF20/30 Boiler problem

Can anyone help? - We inherited this 1970's oil fired boiler when we moved house last year. During the weekend it ran out of oil and although we finally had a delivery today, the boiler will no longer fire up. I suspect air is the fuel feed and I need to bleed the boiler but am not sure where...

    Missing Earth

I am replacing three wall lights and note that the earth wires have previously been cut back. The lights I am fitting have metal backplates and therefore require earthing and while I can pull through sufficient cable for one of the lights (in a partition wall) no such luck with the others. Is...

Changing two single switches to a two-gang dimmer switch

Excellent - all sorted now - thanks for all the helpful advice.

Changing two single switches to a two-gang dimmer switch

OK - some progress. I've identified the one permanent live and have tested the three remaining cores. These switch on three different sets of wall lights (i.e. 2+2+3). Please can anyone advise how I now need to connect all four cores (+ the link wire?) so that each gang can work...

Changing two single switches to a two-gang dimmer switch

I tried but failed to identify the live, probably because I'm not used to using a multimeter (any quick tips?). If there is only one live do I use the link wire to take it to the COM of the second gang, and thereafter which cores go into the L2 terminals?

Changing two single switches to a two-gang dimmer switch

There are only 2x twin and earth cables and all four cores were attached to the original switches, in addition to the link wire (I just can't remember which terminals the link wire 'linked!). As there are only 2 cables, is only one a permanent live? I am absolutely certain it is a spur so...

Changing two single switches to a two-gang dimmer switch

As the heading suggests, this should be reasonably straightforward but I spent the best part of four hours last night going round in circles. Situation is:- I have two wall light circuits in the lounge (5 lights on one and 2 on the other), both of which come of a fused spur from the...
