MCB trips when turned on AND RCD trips too

It wasn’t me who actually reset them. It was the wife! So I couldn’t say right now. From the conversation a few were tripped (upstairs lighting, upstairs sockets and downstairs conservatory as a minimum) and she lifted them all except the conservatory one which is the one that’s refusing to go up.

MCB trips when turned on AND RCD trips too

No the conservatory lights are on a separate circuit. The faulty circuit literally includes: 3 x Double indoor socket 1 x Outdoor socket which is spurred from one of the above 1 x Underfloorheating protected with a FCU

MCB trips when turned on AND RCD trips too

So I removed the outdoor socket (which was wet a little on the outside but dry inside as it is a sealed unit). I removed the cables from the socket and left them exposed. Then tried to reset the MCB. But it still would not go up and still took out the RCD. Can I be confident that the...

MCB trips when turned on AND RCD trips too

Oh I see. It already has a unswitched FCU. So wouldn’t taking the fuse out of that act the same as a SFCU?

MCB trips when turned on AND RCD trips too

The underfloor heating is unswiched. It’s one of those that you need to pop the fuse out using a screwdriver if that makes sense. If it is the outdoor socket. I can try isolate it from the rest of the circuit easily as this is spurred off. So I can disconnect the spur wires from the socket...

MCB trips when turned on AND RCD trips too

The underfloor heating has a fused spur. It’s this fuse I removed.

MCB trips when turned on AND RCD trips too

The thing is nothing is plugged in. We don’t use interior sockets at all. The exterior one has nothing plugged in either. The underfloor I removed the fuse from it so this should have turned it off?

MCB trips when turned on AND RCD trips too

The irons gone in the bin as I know that was faulty. But is it possible that the fact that the iron tripped the entire house that it’s somehow damaged the MCB for the conservatory in the process? Or is that wishful thinking. My next point of call is the outdoor socket - as this is quite close...

MCB trips when turned on AND RCD trips too

Hi All Has a strange issue. Was ironing upstairs and all the electrics were tripped. I reset the RCD and switched everything back on and upstairs is working all fine. Strangely though, the downstairs conservatory sockets are no longer working. The MCB that controls the conservatory...

Sorry should have been more clear. Have updated the picture. It is the stuff on the bricks... The one circled on the right seems to look like its dissolving away!

Any way to Glue letter plate onto PVC door

Guess so. But also, all listings of letter plate in the style I linked above state that they are only suitable for wood door. So I guess i am going against their advice anyway.

Any way to Glue letter plate onto PVC door

usually on a wooden door the hole is cut clean. So the inside can be left blank (almost blank because you’ll still have the two nuts that’s holding the Outside letter box in place). my UPVC door hole is already cut and not very neat, plus the inside has a inside draught type letter box already...

Any way to Glue letter plate onto PVC door

Hi All a strange request I’m sure... but I’ve recently used some of that fancy FrenChic paint to paint my uPVC. To my surprise It actually came out very nice. I know want to change my letter box but the boxes from screwfix/toolstation don’t look great. they do sell victorian style spring...

Outdoor lights on a 3 pin plug

It was what I already had in my house. I very rarely turn these lights on. Maybe once a month for 30 mins so energy consumption wasn’t a problem. I will eventually switch them over. But just wanted to make sure I am not over loading the circuit with the current bulbs.

Outdoor lights on a 3 pin plug

Hi All I have a sheltered area in my garden a bit like a porch, where I have installed 4 Hanging “lantern” style lights. The lanterns themselves are correctly IP rated for outdoor use. Instead of wiring these to a traditional light switch somewhere inside the house, I asked for them to be...

    Measuring fall when block paving

Hi All I have a basic square drive at the front of my house which is currently slabbed (likely without hardcore base) which I am planning to dig up and replace with block paving. Been on pavingexpert website and read about what exactly that needs to be done. my drive needs to be 100mm lower...

Replacing 5 bay window from ground floor bay

Hi Ken Yes it was a cash settlement offer. It’s actually even less than that as they will deduct £250 excess from above. Iit came to just a little over 3k if I take cash now. The VAT can be claimed back once I send in a invoice from a contractor that is VAT registered. I haven’t accepted the...
