Light conversion of Garage Loft Space for storage

Fair point - and i missed a salient bit of information. The upper floor has its own UPVC door leading to it from behind the garage. The garden level is such that you walk up steps to get to the lawn then there are some more steps to the upper garage door. My thoughts are as you suggest - I...

Light conversion of Garage Loft Space for storage

Well done. I'm looking to maximise my space without needing to do a full conversion and not claiming to do so. I'd rather not have condesation dripping on my boxes. I dont need a full conversion but I don't want to make a mistake of taking remidial steps now and then causing a problem in the...

Light conversion of Garage Loft Space for storage

Hi all, We have a 2 storey double garage and the upper floor has been used for storage space. We have no intention of turning it into a granny flat but do want it more usable and potentially a space for my daughter's drum kit. I intend to do some insulating and the contents of which will be...

Advice: Rotten wood trims on external porch

Hi there, I'm stripping our porch which has shiplap on one side. The ends have wooden trims, on of which has rotted (I suspect due to not being properly sealed on the end, which was in touch with the concrete below). The intention is to strip all wood back, seal/silicone etc and repaint. I just...

Changing an MCB after socket extension

I've re-traced the circuit and think this might be running a little long (might even exceed 50m). I'm going to get someone in to look at it as I wonder if I should really be powering these sockets off their own MCB. Having said all of that, just switched the Aga back on and it tripped within 30...

Changing an MCB after socket extension

It is still a radial. I went back to my original sketches and remembered the plan was to extend a ring from elsewhere but it wasn't doable. The existing cable was a single one out of the cu, and I added two junction boxes to extend out and return back in. I just pulled some floor boards and can...

Changing an MCB after socket extension

Hi @Adam_151. I double checked and it is not the former. My mistake. I just triggered the main switch and board pictured is still live. We have had Western Power come and upgrade the main fuse as a result of our ev install. We have certificates for the majority of works that have been done in...

Changing an MCB after socket extension

Oh and to add, the master cu where the feed comes in does have rcd protected circuits.

Changing an MCB after socket extension

Merry Christmas everyone. Earlier in the year we had some plastering and I took it as an opportunity to extend the ring circuit to our bootroom. That was 2 sockets plus a lighting on a 16amp mcb. It was my intention to get an electrician in to change the mcb and while I'm happy wiring...

Too risky to tee off near soldered joints?

Done! In the end there was a lot of wiggly room with the pipes so only 1 slip coupler was needed. I did worry I'd boiled some of the joints but we've had no leaks in nearly a week, and with the cold weather, plenty of heat and pressure in the pipes.

Too risky to tee off near soldered joints?

Ah ha! So this is what's you're all talking about?

Too risky to tee off near soldered joints?

yes, thats why i thought about doing the bottom one 6 inches to the right, closer to the next joist along and clipping the pipe to it.

Too risky to tee off near soldered joints?

Not slip couplers but i looked them up so I think I can see what you mean. re street elbows, yes! it was always in the plan.

Too risky to tee off near soldered joints?

What's the benefit of replacing the straight couplers? There's very little flex as to the left of the image there's a step down into the room, the pipe was bent to accommodate.

Too risky to tee off near soldered joints?

Yes, used a pipe slice. Good point, I had forgotten to ream.

Gate valve on hot water under floor boards

The previous owners of the house did a lot of the work themselves and had this tendency to put gate valves wherever they were going to do planning work for example into an extension that had a shower. Originally there were 2 water supplies coming into the house as it was split and I suspect that...

Too risky to tee off near soldered joints?

Good idea although I don't have a pipe bender. I have a spring but am finding it useless to get in on my recycled copper pipe. Also that would mean I'd have to avoid the feed where the radiator connects. I'll have a think! Probably spend all weekend procrastinating...

Gate valve on hot water under floor boards

I have a gate valve that feeds the hot water taps in the kitchen below, beneath the floorboards of an upstairs room. It's fully open, and I'm not touching it. Now, before I replace the floor in the room in question, should I really get htis removed? What's the likely failure risk if it never...

Too risky to tee off near soldered joints?

I'm planning on teeing off these 15mm pipes. The rough line of the pipe is indicated with the loose pipe on top. My query is the proximity to the joints to the left? The feed is the pipe on top and will be around 65mm away between the old and new joint. Even with a damp rag wrapped, is there a...
