    Replace slave telephone socket cover

Hi thanks for the reply. It’s for aesthetics only (old one is gold/brass and wanted to replace with chrome the same as electrical sockets). Photo of replacement socket attached. Looks to just need a small flat head screwdriver. Was concerned about getting a shock when replacing from wires…

    Replace slave telephone socket cover

Hi, I’m looking to replace a telephone socket face plate. Fairly certain it’s a slave point as have a BT socket at the front of the house where fibre broadband router is connected (I don’t actually use this socket in question). I assume I can simply replace like for like however unsure re...

    Pitched roof - extension length

Thanks all for the replies. Will go back to 4m and see if we can make things work with the roof. I think you are right about compromising, I'd become a bit fixated on the roof pitch as know next door had issues, but that was a few years ago now and the tiles probably weren't available then.

    Pitched roof - extension length

Thanks @tony1851 yes I'd heard about the cut out option (and yes the upstairs windows are the problem). Window cill to ground is around 3.6m. Other than aesthetics are there any drawbacks to the cut out option (i.e. maintenance, leak risk etc?). I'd like to try and get the angle to 17.5° as this...

    Pitched roof - extension length

Hi all, Currently getting plans drawn up for a full width rear extension. The plan is for a pitched roof. We had originally planned to go out 4m however concerned about shallow pitch. We think going out 3.5m will be just OK to fit in what we would like, but 4m would be better. The difference...

    Doorbell transformer for Nest/Ring

Thanks. Yes I thought it looked like telephone wire. Definitely can't see a transformer anywhere. Nothing on or around consumer unit. May have to ask my electrician to visit. Don't want to buy the bell if isn't going to be possible to connect up. I know the Ring bell can be used wirelessly off...

    Doorbell transformer for Nest/Ring

Hi, thanks. I was hoping to use the existing doorbell wiring rather than using a plug in socket and new wiring (I don't have a plug socket nearby in any case).

    Doorbell transformer for Nest/Ring

Hi all, we are looking to get a smart doorbell (Nest or Ring) and was hoping it would be a simple case of replacing existing wired bell push. However I understand the existing transformer may be unsuitable. I'm struggling to find the transformer and all I can see is the chime box (photo...

Replacing 2 gang 2 way dimmer switch

Morning all, I am trying to replace a dimmer switch with a standard switch. I'd hoped it would be a case of a simple switch over however when changing over neither light works so clearly something not right. I've attached the original dimmer wiring configuration. When wiring the replacement...

Shower room ceiling paint peeling - Zinsser

Evening all, I have a problem with peeling paint in my ensuite shower room. I have sanded down, filled and am ready to paint. I have read that Zinsser perma white is a decent paint to use. I understand it is self priming but wondered if it is still better to use a dedicated primer first (e.g...
