Just a update the new tank is now emptying like the other tank ie flooding out so it’s either because it isn’t sharing a pipe any more or it’s because there is no Horizontal run probably the latter.

Yeah both are new bylaw tanks and I fitted both myself months apart it’s just weird why one empty’s so good and the other isn’t.

The pipe work is pretty much the same apart from a longer straight run along a wall I’m thinking maybe sharing the pipe is the problem I think I’ll try connecting the new tank to the pipe on its own and see if it empty’s better failing that I’m at a loss as I don’t want to drill a hole through...

A birdsmouth at the bottom is needed that’s without question it’s the top one I can’t understand surely pushing against the stone/brick wall of the house is better than a strip of wood ie the ledger board also what size timber would you recommend for the ledger board does it need to be the same...

Good question surely the force at the top of the rafter is pushing against the ledger or ridge board (depending on the roof type) and the bottom part with birdsmouth is pushing down on the wall so is another birdsmouth really needed at the top.

Hi all just looking at cutting birdmouths and noticed some people cut two, one for wall plate and one for the ledger board is two better or is one sufficient? Cheers

Oh that’s easy they are coming out each end I’ll have to trim them off I’ve been reading the lintel should go rough side up for the mortar to get a proper key

Hi Guys I have a pre stressed lintel to go above a window but for the life of me can’t figure out what way round it goes it’s a trapezoid shape 4in x 5.5in x 6in with two steels running through the middle and no stamp to say top also it’s going on top off a 100mm block, cheers

Cheers I’m talking about the timber that the rafters lean against on the house wall not the wall plate on the cavity wall which will be strapped and birdsmouthed.

Hi Guys I’m planning to attach a ledger board to a brick and stone wall which will be used for a lean to roof extension I was going to use m12x160mm threaded studs with chemical resin to hold it question is will this be good enough or is bigger studs needed? Cheers
