Which brackets could I use that are height adjustable? I've not fitted a kitchen before. The units I took down had a french cleat type bracket. If I used this type I would have to lift the unit up and drop it onto the bracket leaving a cm gap or so at the top.

Thanks for the input. The newel post seems to have little to no support directly underneath and there has been no problems with the stairs after removing what I did in the picture. So I think I will proceed as I planned and see how it goes. Jason

Just had email from planning dept and it seems like I'm stuck. Looks like any structure or outbuilding on the side elevation wil planning permission as I'm in a conservation area. Guess I'll have to come back to this when I've got a bit more free time. Shame.
