    pump favours HW only

I was looking for some comments regarding smartfit controls and this post came up. As someone who has been there and got the wet tee shirt it was great to read Agile offering advice on how a pro might undertake the work. Then along comes this Softus know-nowt and decries all the tips...

Faulty ACL Lifestyle Mid Position Valve?

I have on old (knackered) Drayton Lifestyle mid pos valve (pt no 679H340-3OLO) Just taken a look to see if the head is removable and for the life of me I can't see how. Maybe a newer version is. The Synchron motor inside doesn't look too bad to replace though and for not much more than a...

Hot water storage tank in loft

Aye. JohnD makes a good point there. I have, rightly or wrongly, always referred to the storage vessel containing water destined for the cylinder as the "hot water storage tank" Somewhat ambiguous I agree. The same principles apply to a cylinder in the loft with regard to support and...

    HRM Wallstar Lockout.

I know this thread is donkeys years old and there will be plenty of trolls willing to flame me for posting to it. But as I stated it I reckon I can may be excused. incidentally, I don't follow the "this thread is x years old, what are you doing posting to it" idea. Surely time should not get...

Hot water storage tank in loft

Do the pumps have one copper pipe in and one copper pipe out (probably Grundfos written on the side) and make a noise whenever you have your central heating / Hot water on? Or do they have four flexible connections and wake up the whole street whenever you take a shower?

Hot water storage tank in loft

Yes - Ideally it needs to be as high as possible and out of the way. Providing it is well supported, well lagged and has an overflow fitted I can't think of a better place for it. Can you? What exactly are the "pumps etc" you refer to? Shower pumps always sound like the apocolypse if...

    HRM Wallstar Lockout.

Swapped control box (TF 830) last night. - Boiler was L/O this morning. Have replaced Satronic 770s Photocell today. Looks like the pump tomorrow.

Sealed CH System - expansion vessel required?

Am I missing the point here. (probably) But if the DHW cylinder is vented to atmosphere then the system cant be sealed. Old fashioned maybe, but not sealed. Probably a dumb comment and feel free to ridicule me if I have missed something totally obvious.

    HRM Wallstar Lockout.

Thanks for all your replies. I must admit my own Wallstar has a considerable amount of air and seems to cause no problem at all. Very interesting to read the comments regarding it though. The burners in all the boilers are Serling 40's. A great burner IMHO. The control box would of course...

    Solar Panel - anti freeze

I went to Viesmann last week for a look at their solar heating product and they sressed very strongly that teh cylinder should be lower than the collector. Theirs is a pumped system but might be worth considering. The glycol in their systems is supplied ready mixed to add when commissioning...

    HRM Wallstar Lockout.

I service a number HRM Wallstar boilers and live on a small estate built some 6 years ago where all of the properties had HRM 12/14's installed. I moved in about a year ago and have had no problem with mine but know of at least 4 others that suffer from regular burner lockouts that don't seem...

    Smeg LPG Jets

I have recently moved to an area off mains gas and have a Smeg cooker with gas hob that I would dearly love to convert to lpg. I guess I could contact the manufacturer but thought I would ask on here first if anyone knows of a company that would be able to supply me with the appropriate jets...

do you have the rd treloar book

[The answers can be found within the book] Or in the words of Mr Treloar himself..... "The answers to these questions may need some thought and transference of knowledge, or indeed consultation with others, such as your college tutor" I guess the original question was indeed consulting...

    oil fire valves

I tend to use Teddington's but KBB's are good too. Not met your peerless incarnation. If your not going to fit the valve outside then you may as well save the money and not fit one at all. Use a cheap soldered wheel valve. This would not meet building regs/oftec regs though. The teddies...

Massive gas bill, Baxi Solo 3 60 PF

So..... Many people have suggested many issues that you could consider regarding your high bill but you havn't really eliminated their ideas, it seems you would prefer to heat your flat on fan heaters. How do you know it is cheaper to do this? Have you had an electricity bill for this...

    OFTEC bleeder?

This cust pays supplier good money for a signalman which fails. Supplier fails to notice and subsequently cust runs out of oil resulting in air-locked supply line. If this was my customer I would be out there to resolve problem asap - gratis. Guess I'll never be rich though. Have you let...

    Bleeding oil line

That's the baby. It's nice and long on the RDB so you can get a gauge on without fowling against other parts of the burner. Sterling use them on the Danfoss pumps too. Open about 1/2 to 1 full turn with an allen key and try firing the burner until you see oil (and the burner fires). Leave...

    Bleeding oil line

What flavour riello burner has your boiler got fitted. I find riello are pretty good at providing pumps with appropriately positioned connection locations. Mostly the gauge connector is below the pressure adjuster, more often than not thats the one with the slot in. Ideally both of these are...

    Bleeding oil line

You could have tried venting the air through the gauge connection port whilst trying to fire the burner from the lock out button. Might take a few goes but it's a lot easier to get to than the suction line/flex hose underneath. Make sure you put a container under the pump first though, to...
