How to set out posts for decking (Ed.)

That is a great idea, although I think that will be beyond my expertise at the moment I’ve just put a couple of deck posts in, one is very slightly off square (must have gone wrong with the string line somewhere). Will this affect the joist connecting on to the face of the post at both ends...

How to set out posts for decking (Ed.)

Great, I will look in to that! Yep, the end of the decking will be in front of that tree by about 15cm. We did consider removing the tree but decided not to in the end

How to set out posts for decking (Ed.)

I’m finding it tricky to get the four corner stakes bang on 90 degrees with string line. They are slighty off by a few mm. Am I being too picky? If I were to fix a fence post square in the corner, would I be able to level the next post in with string line off that, and then do the same for the...

How to set out posts for decking (Ed.)

Great thanks, that did cross my mind. Will the string line naturally do its job of levelling the fence posts up in a straight line I assume, providing I fit the post flush against it?

How to set out posts for decking (Ed.)

Hi all. I am after some advice please. I am fairly new to DIY and looking to build some decking 3.6m x 3.3m In this picture I’ve marked out roughly where the corner posts are going, and just learning the 3/4/5 method to get a 90 degree corner. Once I’ve put the first post in (back left in...

    Preparing soil for turf

That was boring …job done though! Thank you. Can I just ask you please, once I have added top soil, do I need to fully compact the soil to lay turf, or do I need to compact it then rake a top layer back for the turf? I think it’s the former, just want to make sure I’m right. Many thanks

    Preparing soil for turf

Hi all. I am near the end of my process readying the soil to lay turf, removing weeds, stones etc up to 20cm deep. A long slog with a fork and spade! I am adding some top soil to the existing soil. Should I walk over the current soil and compact it prior to adding the top soil, or add the top...

    Window Sill Adhesive

Hi all I am fitting a new uVPC window sill to replace the old manky one. The surface is a mixture of concrete, plaster (which I’ll probably scrape off) and soft materials. The front concrete section is more raised that the back, would it be best to stick a baton in to bring it up to level prior...

    Asbestos tiles

Many thanks. If I were to lift these tiles up myself, would that do any harm? I’d have to try and cause as little disturbance as possible to the tiles!

    Asbestos tiles

Hi all I have just taken my laminate floor up ready to have LVT put down by a fitter. Hoping it would be concrete subfloor, I’ve come across these tiles. Would you think these have asbestos in them? The house is a 1970’s build. If so, what do you recommend as the floor needs screeding? Can...

    Cable

Thank you so much @Diver Fred , that looks like the exact one I need. My next question, sorry! I don’t have a telephone in the house and it looks like that’s a telephone extension cable, will that affect my internet connection? Many thanks

    Cable

Through your advice, the reason that extra cable is there is because there is no socket to plug the hub in to near the open reach socket so the previous owner used it as an extension. Any idea what this cable is called so I can buy one, as it’s broken? These are the two ends to it
