    back syphonage

Thanks for the replies. As it clears after a few minutes does that mean it is partially blocked. What do you mean " if it was plumbed properly I would't have the problem"? I (or someone else) will be putting in a new bathroom suite soon so is there something I need to get done. Thanks.

    back syphonage

Not sure if my description is correct. Have just bought old flat which has been empty for 9 months. Every thing fine except everything rather old. Suddenly other day noticed lot of gurgling in sink in bathroom then later heard and saw water coming into the bath through the plug hole. After a...

    paint on plaster

Sorry, can't manage an image. Is like a thin skin and does soften and peel in small amounts with the steamer but is very slow. Will try to line walls if there is no magic cure. Thanks for interest.

    For all your bathroom/deocorators/plumbers . . . . .

I have a similar flat to yours. I bought a bathroom suite and thermostatic shower from B+Q for about £450. Will get a plumber in to install them I hope for under £300. Will do lots of preparation work myself. One big thing I intend to do is paint over the existing bathroom tiles (it is three...

    paint on plaster

I have steam stripped the wallpaper on some walls on a 1940s/50s flat to find a sort of orange coloured paint which is like a skin/paint on the walls. Some of it is coming off in pieces more of it is staying fixed. Any ideas on what exactly what is it and how best to remove it. Thanks, Col

    lighting circuits and flats

I am buying a flat, hopefully, in the next few weeks. It probably needs rewiring and I don't intend to do it my self but I might do some of the donkey work. Can someone please tell me how a new lighting circuit will be installed? I presume there must be some method other than lifting boards...

    Finding the rising main

Sounds straight forward or so I thought until I went looking. I want to cut off my lead rising main which goes under my hall and kitchen floor as I am having a new wood kitchen floor laid and I don't want to risk a burst and having to dig it all up. I have a solid downstairs floor and I...

    cold everything

Thank you all for your help and advice. Yes it was probably a blockage high up. I used a plunger last night in the header tank and by this morning I had a small amount of water coming through. I used the plunger again this morning and got a decent flow and I have now got water in my radiators.

    cold everything

Is that the little black box on the side of the pump with 4 settings? If so I have tried that but no joy. The pipe coming from header tank comes down and does a sharp turn into a larger pipe and then into the pump. Could it be blocked there not that I am very wise as to what to do next if it...

    cold everything

Thanks, Sounds like it might be but what to do. I have pushed a screwdriver down the pipe as far as I can but met no resistance and nothing happened. I noticed in another post someone suggesting connecting the system drain valve with an outside mains pipe and forcing the water in backwards...

    cold everything

I have no HW, no CH and a very unhappy wife. Needed to move the radiator in my kitchen which happens to be the last on in my system. Did as advised - tied up ball cock in header tank, drained system, moved radiator , untied ball cock, tank filled up and that's it. My radiators etc. are I...
